If you're talking about allowing subdomains as far as hotlinking protection goes, you can do this:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://.*yourdomain.com [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(gif|GIF|jpg|JPG|mpg|MPG|Mpeg|mpeg|MPEG)$ http://www.yourdomain.com [R,L]

This would allow *anything.yourdomain.com to be able to load the filetypes in the RewriteRule.
