i have to get to egypt one day. the hotel looks nice but reading the page it said each room has 2 twin beds, that would be unacceptable for me...has to be at least a double even if i am going alone...queen if someone goes with me but would like it more if it was a king

they hate amaericans and its a dirty filthy place from what ive heard. People have told me there are much better places to visit.

Well I'm a Dutch guy, so that they dislike US ppl, doesn't hurt me

Been there twice..... I thought I would give it a 2nd chance and regretted it

Even the pyamids and shit are a dissapointment, but thats mainly because of the way you are treated

They also have king size beds...So that is solved

yes, dirty. By human standards, Egypt is a very uneducated, poor, and highly populated country compared to how I live in California.

Ive never been there but have talked to some who have. Other than that I have no advice.

If you like windsurfing, it's a great place to go, but I wouldn't consider it really safe. They improved security alot, military is patrolling places where tourists are, but I still wouldn't go there atm.

If you are looking for a combination of beach and historic sites like what Egypt has, I would highly recommend Cambodia which has ancient ruins (Angkor Wat) that will shortly become more popular than even the Pyramids as it is way more impressive in so many way and they have a beach town on the ocean or combine Cambodia with a tropical island resort in Thailand. You can fly to Bangkok and be at a place like the island of Ko Chang in the east on the way to Cambodia...It is dirt cheap and a wonderful cultural experience but it is not luxury amenities or easy travel but worth a few inconveniences to experience Angkor Wat...

Yeah Egypt isn't really that great imho.. I was there in 94.. I managed to have a good time, but that was in spite of the locale not because of it.

The message board (Thorne Tree) at LonelyPlanet.com is an excellent source of info from fellow travellers and people residing in places you want to visit. I spent 3 months backpacking a couple of years ago in S.E. Asia, and garnered invaluable advice and ideas on that board and got to ask people who had just been to places like Laos about what scams are going on...

Otherwise, you can see Arabs in one of their coutries - chaos in circulation, especially in Cairo, where no one stops at the red light, even with a cop there, but only when the cop holds the traffic for you to croos if you ask them, or to avoid crashes with other cars, otherwise you can hear always small car signals, since they always drive on red light. Signalling right or left is only something only a few drivers currently do - not that important to them

Lots of "beggars" at the tourist places, I mean those in charge with checking your ticket/watching the site - everything they "offer" (such as a small carton for "air conditioning" in a ancient tomb) is to beg for a tip later, you can say $1 is ok, but when lots of people in lots of places ask for $1 you get really pissed off.
Lots of cheaters among merchants, always looking to cheat on you. Either you bargain with them (and therefore repeat always this annoyance), or get cheated with a high price.
When bargaining, consider in your mind the right price, say a lower value, and get to the price you want. If they still have profit from it, they will sell, don't worry.
Kind of - they say $100, you say it's only $40 worth, say $20, $25, they say $70 and so, and you get to $40.
Always with the respective circus of" Nah, I'm not buying at this price" and simulating you leave so they come to grab you for the cheaper price you wanted. It's this kind of BS with all arabs, turks ...

When asked about your nation, say an Eastern European country, you'll get a cheaper price, if you say a Western country, they know you can afford more.
Otherwise, cheap prices in lots of places, nice hotels (the 5 stars ones) in Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh at the Red Sea ...

If you go to a seaside hotel you can avoid the mechants present at any tourist site.
Btw, you can hardly see females hired there, even the hotel cleaners or waiters are men/boys.
And one more thing, I belive it does not happen, but if you really get annoyed by a certain merchant or whatever, I noticed Egyptians really fear police, so make clear you can call them

A couple of good friends of mine just got back from a trip to Egypt. They had a fantastic time. They also followed the advice to wear Canadian flags and wedding rings.

Hehe I just noticed two US ppl in my city. They were funny. They wanted to order Chinese food, and they tried ordering in English...They girl didn't understand, and they just talked harder. After 5 tries of talking HARDER, the girl from the restaurant asked her manager

They were from Texas, and wearing HAWAI shirts and both were pretty fat...How stereotype

Had a great time when I went to Egypt. With the terrorist situation I would think twice about going anytime in the near future. I was able to talk with and spend a good deal of time with some locals. From what I saw most white Americans were not well received. I sat down for dinner and drinks with the bar owner and a white canadian, and it was all good.

Talking to women is not to be taken lightly except maybe in the tourist areas. Be careful about who you approach. I almost got arrested for solicitaion
