70% of Republicans say a president should be guided by "faith"

Asked if a President should be guided by his faith when making policy, 63 per cent Democrats say "no" while 70 per cent Republicans say "yes".

http://www.deepikaglobal.com/latestnews.asp?ncode=16866

Republicans are fucked up.

there is nothing anywhere in the constitution about seperation of church and state, this is a huge myth..

grab a copy of it, read it...the only thing you will find similar is "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

Thomas Jefferson however did send a letter in 1802 and it included this "I contemplate with solemn reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State." which is where we get the quote from

Yet the uneducated, liberal, rabble would like to prohibit the President from the free exercise of his religion.

typical but still sad.

i am a very liberal person, but I do agree with what you just said.....if I was president, and I was not allowed to use my religious (which are comparable to buddist) views while making decisions, then the world would not be a good place

while I don't agree with christianity, i do agree that our religious or spiritual views do make up who we are

Thats right for sure. In other words, no official religion or official endorsement of one faith OVER another as a matter of policy.

Yet some view a president or other high official to be pushing his/her religion on others when they use it in every speech, or put it on money, or carve it in marble over the supreme court building. Ya know, all those little mentions

I did find it extremely disturbing though when GW told Woodward (in the interview GW *wanted* to give mind you) that instead of asking his father for advice on Iraq, he asked a "higher father".

But it's not a religious war, oh no.. lol confusing

Isnt it interesting too that the words "under god" in the pledge of allegiance was *NOT* in the pledge originally. It was added in later by politicians. And now that a person wants it restored to its original form, people cry that you cant change it.. umm...

Anyway, I never talk politics or religion

tjhat always amused me....did you hear about that dr. pepper can rumour a while back, religious people created drama by saying that pepsico removed under god or whatever....and it wasn't even true!!! hahahaha

we have just as many religious fanatics in this country as they do in iraq, they just have different tactics here...instead of killing people with action, they try and kill you with drama

The educated, enlightened liberals would like to avoid living in a theocracy and having to scrape our knees bowing to God to avoid going to jail.

You republicans should be living in Iran, that's the government you seem to favor. Religious, authoritarian and ignorant.

the people who "feel" they are educated, enlightened, liberals aren't bright enough to see that no one wants that, we just want the common sense that comes with letting a man believe anything he wishes as long as its peaceful.

No, the Constitution does not specifically say that there should be "separation of Church and State" but a number of Supreme Court decisions have interpreted the "establishment of religion" clause to mean, for the most part, just that.

is that right? Then what's up with all these 'faith based initiatives'? What's up with the Repubs trying to loosed the rules that prohibit churches from being actively involved in campaigning for a particular candidate?

If Bush thought he could squeeze a few more votes out of his base by burning witches, he'd have a pyre set up on the white house lawn the next day. You're not a brick wall morons bang their heads against Ronnie, your head IS a brick wall nothing can penetrate.

common sense tells you that religion mixing with govt. is NEVER NEVER good, but seeing as how conservatives are incapable of learning from history and past mistakes, and your entire self-image is derived from your status as a redneck republican, it's not surprising that you either don't understand that or pretend not to.

No, diglet. One group is basically harmless (if misguided) while the other group has killed 10s of thousands of innocent people during our lifetime.

to the dopey liberal who's been misguided by his tin foil hat, the 2 might be the same but to intelligent people, they're not similar at all. but you go girl!

Hey look, I almost agree with 12clicks. Although, I wouldn't say Muslim extremists are harmless, they did kill thousand of people on sept. 11.

You're right about Christian extremists killing 10s of thousands in our lifetime though, not to mention millions before we were born.

Which bible are they reading if they are guided by faith . If Bush was following the ways of Jesus :

He would not be fucking the poor in the ass
Going to war with a country that did nothing to us
lying at every turn.

He has no faith its a buzz word , polls said the sheep like to hear.

The best line about this was in the Woody Allen movie Hannah and her sisters : " If Jesus came back and heard all the things being done in his name. He would never be able to stop throwing up "

the only reason christians are 'harmless' right now is because of the laws we've made protecting ourselves from them.

I think the repubs are right though. We should have a Biblical rule of law and a police govt. with the absolute right to spy, search and seize. Also, everyone will be required to bow and scrape before the flag while they sing hosannas to Jesus Christ the Savior every morning.

That'll keep the godless communist liberals down.

Dont forget overthrowing the Greeks and declaring any other worship illegal and seizing the statues and artworks for their museums.
oh and dont forget coming up from mexico and putting up crosses and forcing those crazy natives to kneel and pray, lol.

Theres a lot of fucked up things in the world man. Every faith shares in some shames of the past. It's "holier than thou" attitudes that are fucked up.

I dont care what anyone worships. But I demand a recip!

You are the prototype Republican, proud of not knowing anything.
Its not surprizing that, having been shown your place, you're still not bright enough to take it.

typical but still sad.
You need to check yourself, you old fossil. When speaking of the uneducated, it's the Republicans who appeal to the LCD in this country with their simple, sound bite advertising and one liners that appeal to the uninformed. And what party in charge wants to put the squeeze on this industry and has made it impossible for me to listen to Howard Stern down here where I live since Clear Channel has pulled his program off the air from pressure by the FCC?
Who was that? Better check your rabble first. I could care less what Bush or any other person in his administration wants to practice as long as religion of ANY KIND has no impact on government.
That shouldn't be so hard to understand, even for the LCD.

12clicks is hilarious, 100% lame insults, 0% points. You can break his "arguments" apart with facts all day, he'll come back and call you "diglet" and think he somehow one upped you. It's amazing, he's like a child.

"this is why America is turning their backs on liberals", lol, I wish I could just talk out of my ass like he does but I'm forced to consider reality. I've often wondered if people like him walk around in a daze believing this shit themselves, or if they're conscious of their BS but just can't admit to every having been wrong.

Seeing as Kerry is up in the polls by about 6-7 points I'd suggest that America is turning it's back on conservatives, now that they remember how incompetent they are.

Hmmm. A pornographer arguing that fundamentalist christians are harmless. Weird.

Here's some of the more recent harm done: http://freespeechcoalition.com/archives.html

Fundamentalist christians may not cut people's heads off (anymore) but that hardly is the benchmark to declare them "harmless".

Gee, quoting the poll where they asked more registered dems than republicans who they're likely to vote for.

uninformed child.
run along
