I think I may have seen an answer to this question before

...but I have forgotten what the answer was.

I just recently bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma...and paid for it in full by check...but I still was required to fill out a credit app...I wonder why? I asked the dealer but his only answer was that it is routine. It did not used to be routine as I have paid in full in past times and did not have to fill out a credit app.

I would have walked away and gone to another dealer. Every time an inquiry is made on your credit history and credit is not GIVEN it creates a negative notch in it regardless of it just being 'routine' or not,.

I assume that you are saying that it is not routine...and is not required by every dealer...if so how do you know this? I assume that a credit inquiry was not made (maybe my assumption is not correct)...as what would be the need since I paid in full? BTW...even though I supplied my credit info...I did refuse to sign the credit app...and even though I was encourged to do so...the issue of my refusing to sign was not pushed.

I actually had the same thing happen, i wrote a check but they still ran it. They said it was mandatory but i cant remember why.

He did try to talk me into financing afterwards so maybe its just a sleasy sales tactic though.

Well...no attempt was made to get me to finance it...and with the current 0% APR that Toyota has...I do not know what they would gain by financing it. Is this the first time it has happened with you? It is with me...though as I stated I have paid in full in past times.

I dont know what reason they would have to do that.

My aunt and uncle sold their house in SO CAL and just moved to AZ. The paid for the new house in cash, they had to go through a realitor (more commition fees) they had to pay out, even though they bought the lot from her son, they also had to have a credit check.
