What are you looking for? Just a daily beater? Or more of a street/strip brawler?

dude that is a really unintelligent comment...

just in case you forgot, a car is NOT an asset but a liability, so why increase your liabilities when you don't have to?

A car is not a liability if you pay cash and don't finance it.

I highly recommend a Civic. I've had two, and they both drove through thick and thin, and were super easy to drive and good on gas. I got my current one when it was turned in after a three year lease for 18$K canadian.

A liability is anything that could potentially/or already, does not generate revenue. And or depreciates in value.

Thus, I would also categorize a car as a liability. But then again, I'm not like most. To me, your car should reflect 5% (or if a must, 10% max) of your annual income.

A car can be used to generate revenue though, if you use it for deliveries, etc, and expense it properly. Or if you have a classic car, it could apprciate in value.

5% of annual income? hmmm interesting. That sounds about right.

Let me justify the expense of a brand new Cessna jet, if I pinky swear promise to "fly people around at a fee".

Come on, are we not reaching a bit? For the most part, we're all webmasters. It's clear, as such - We do not have time to become taxi drivers in our spare time, and cater to the masses at a fraction of the income that can be made online..Thus it's a liability, anyway you would like to cut it.

I use my car to drive to photo shoots on road trips, and also to run to the post office to send things out. So I do expense those miles and the corresponding expenses and depreciation. My accountant told me to.

If you want a sports car...check out a 05-97 E36 M3, 3rd Gen RX-7s, Supras, or S2000s.

Luxury sedans...you could look at used IS300s, E320s, A4s, etc...

And for reliable economy cars...check out Civics, Camry's, or Corollas.

you're the same kid who couldn't buy milk for your kid but you'll buy a 20k car cash now that you have a little income? your priorities are all fucked up.

if you need a car, grab a used honda/acura/toyota and run it into the ground.

Anyone watch "PIMP MY RIDE"? Guy whose car they chose to fix up, was actually 2 different year model, Ford Escorts, welded together... everyone was laughing and said they cant fix that. So X went and bought one of these SCIONS and they fixed it up!

It actually looked pretty good when they got done with it

Your use is validated, and indeed in your case not a liability. However, where things begin to get shaky is - How much you've spent on your car. A $3500 car in most cases, can perform and complete the same tasks listed, as a $35,000 car can. With repairs? Or unknown potential problems of buying used, you can equate the cost of an additional $3500 car. With both cars you're still saving 1/7th, then with a new "luxury" car.

But either way, it's clear - Your car is needed moreso, then most. Thus, I find us both to be right. And this topic to be very subjective. To each his own, perhaps.

Indeed. Yes, if we bought a super duper car and then tried to expense that, we would have to show the neccessity of the pricier car. (Whereas the government can pay $1800 for a hammer and get away with it). But such is life. ;)
