Lol.
Why not now.

The most common date to start a diet or start working out is 'next week' or 'next month' :)

BigFish 06-13-2004 07:33 AM

Americans? It's a GLOBAL epidemic you close minded fools. Note USA's minor deviation from other countries around the world. Don't blame us for being the fat cat entrepreneurs of the world.

Why are the rich always thin and the poor always overweight?

Time Magazine (june 7,2004)

blames that on that fact that poor people don't have access to supermarkets so they buy most of their food at gas stations.

How come you always see welfare people buying crap with their food stamp money. Especially when obsesity related illness cost medicare in the billions.

Not to detract from the overweight issues we do have in the US, but I really think the standards are set inadequately. This is a picture of me shortly after I was declared obese by the United States Department of Defense:

50% of people in the world who starts going to the gym 3-4 times weekly give up in less than 3 months.

Imagine the stats on this for americans :1orglaugh

Ic3m4nZ 06-13-2004 11:47 AM

And on a recent study they said that 9 americans out of 10 doesn't do sports or exercise regularly. This is one of the main reasons why they are so fat.

bad_girl 06-13-2004 11:47 AM

On the brighter side of things, a lot of schools are phasing out pop machines more healthier beverages. It also doesnt help that taco bell and pizza hut are found in most high schools in the US, hopeufully they will be phased out as well.

The portion sizes in the US are much larger than those in other countries. You are more likely to get fat eating 2-3 huge meals a day than eating small portions 5-6 times a day. Many US restaurants serve meals that are close to 2000 calories (average daily allowance) and most fast food combo meals have over 1000 calories.

Also, here in the US people rely on their cars more than elsewhere. Most people won't walk 3 blocks when they are able to drive it instead.

tonkagunner 06-13-2004 12:04 PM

It isn't just fast food that is problem. Most of US grocery stores sell pre-made food. The fresh food/ produce section of store is very small when you consider size of rest of store. Most of the pre-made american foods are aweful for you just like fast food. Most premade dishes are made of cheese and meat which are both usually fattening.

And, the produce departments in grocery stores is not nearly as good as what you would get from a farmers market. When it comes to fresh foods, I think third world countries have it better than US for most cities.

This is true. Last year when I was in ft.lauderdale I ate out everyday, naturally... and half the time I was so fucking full I couldn't move after finishing a meal. In Finland you gotta eat before you go to a restaurant or you're left hungry...:1orglaugh

Interesting thread,

Every time I go to the States, it's so clear why there are so many obese people there - it's all in the diet.

Serving sizes - especially in Vegas - are absolutly huge, like 2-3 times bigger than the average serve in Australia. Also the fact most meals come with a side serve of fries don't help. And as well the fact coke seems to be so popular..
In the 7/11's - all the food there is junk - and looking at the nutritional information, food with that much fat & sugar content just isn't available in Australia...

This is the way Australia is heading.. but really it's all in the diet - when I go to the USA, 2 meals a day is enough to leave me full

venus 06-13-2004 10:42 PM

you do not get out much do you, have you ever been to Germany

My girlfriend is from Finland, she also does webcam shows on my site for me, she said the problem there is alcohol and drugs, the entire country may be skinny, thats because they are to drunk or fucked up to eat.

I think its a worldwide thing. The other day someone posted pic of naked swedish high school girls, and all of them looked like they had stuffed way too many meatballs down their throat.

Its a combination of fast food and empty calories. People are more busy and with mom working, theres much more chance of going out for fastfood. When I grew up in the 80s, fast food was a treat, not an everyday thing.

Second reason is technoligical age. With video games and Internet, kids just aren't as active as they once were. Why go out and ride bikes when you can look at naked girls on the interweb.

Umm.. finland is probably the second fattest country in the world.
..and like 5 guys do drugs here.
Tons of alcoholics and massive alcohol consumption though.

ocho-ocho 06-14-2004 01:22 AM

many fast foods and big fod servings!

evl4fun 06-14-2004 01:40 AM

Because gluttny is the american way! We get more....we want more.

pimplink 06-14-2004 01:46 AM

Because US is a highly developed country. People live in the fast lane where competition is tough and people usually don't find time to eat healthy foods and exercise. They usually grab fastfoods which are convenient and cheap BUT unhealthy. Americans are also fond of supersizes and food binges.

hova 06-14-2004 01:48 AM

Fast food is the correct answer, but fat people are everywhere

slavdogg 06-14-2004 02:21 AM

everything you guys just said has its contradictions

just look at this chart
http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/yourweig...is_stats.shtml

most russians dont drive, dont eat fast food, cook at home and still have a high % of fat people and always had.

Italians eat out all day long, eat a lot of breads, pizzas and have the lowest %

Finland, it gets really cold up there. You'd think their body would use a lot of energy to keep them worm thus burning some fat off, but they're still fat

spain, simular lifestyles to Italy, and late night eating, but still high %

out of all countries Americans excerise the most, have the most gyms, and all kinds of weight loss programs but are the fattest ?

and on top of that to contradict everything i just said, When i was in europe 2 months ago i didnt see a single fat person.

would be interesting to compare these #s to the #s of smokers in those countries.
