:mad harddrive issues

last night due to a 20 mile radius blackout my harddrive went kaput and windows cant and wont load on it..so today I went and bought a ew 200 gig harddrive to replace it but here is where it gets screwy.when I insert my disc to load up windows xp it says booting from cd rom and just hangs there.i CAN SEE THE LIGHTS GOING off on the cd now so I know its tryint to access it..do you think my OS disc is fucked or is the new hd fucked?

oh yeah,with no disc in the cd rom it system disc boot failure,insert system disk and press enter..and the bios finds the hd just fine

hmm .. my power went out last night too

and it wasnt raining or anything ,
thats been happening alot lately ,

did the drive come with a floppy with disk utils on it? Sometimes you have to fdisk the drive with the manufacturer's disk utility.

If it is a seagate or Western Digital, XP will not recognize them if they are over like 80 gigs without service pack 4 from microshit.
I just had to do it.

Yeah check the jumpers on the hard drive & CDROM... sounds like a master/slave prob.

Im in Canada ,
We lost power last night for about ten minutes and then again this morning for an hour or so :P


Cost me a few hours rendering

Wonder how big the black out was , and why it wasnt on the news .

Western digital sucks donkey balls - it lasted about 13 months and it's now caput on my kids' computer - it's been grinding for about 5-6 months (just the sound wasn't loud enough) seemed like it was a fan issue but now I'm getting the blue screen of death.
