Sounds nice. Why not go for the pure 64bit?

if its a server why did you opt for p4 over xeon?

also why go for a mixture of SCSI and SATA drives?

Because to make a 2 terrabyte server out of Sata or SCSI youd spend WELL over $20,000. I already checked into it, and my Fijitshu drives are 300 gigs a piece and spin at 10k rpm... They cost $700
Pentium4 3.2 gig is actually FASTER then some of the Xeons out there, dont be misguided by a name.
Read here.
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030811/
Especially this line, its about as "non technical as you can get"
"
"In the end, the Opteron, with its comparatively low clock speed of 1.8 GHz, managed to put the Xeon with 3.06 GHz in its place for various server applications. "
.
"The current Xeon, codenamed "Prestonia," is similar in structure to the Northwood core of the P4 and has additional registers for multiprocessor capabilities. However, the FSB speed has its limits. While the P4 can work optionally with FSB800 (real FSB speed of 200 MHz), the Xeon has a maximum speed of FSB533 (real FSB speed of 133 MHz). This means the bandwidth between the processor and the chipset in the Xeon is significantly limited, compared to the P4 "

The white ones house the Fijitsu drives, the colored are the WD drives.
Im assuming you are talking about the fan speed and degree ones, theyre made by SUN , cost around $45 a peice, nothing big, and its pretty sweet to have, can choose from 1 fan or 2 fans, (1 in back and 1 under)

You OWN all the servers or do you RENT them and then sell virtual hosting

Interesting server. I'd love to see a load test to determine bottlenecks... that would be interesting.

I would have done a couple of things different :

1. Choose for AMD Opteron
2. Choose Tyan motherboard, no way MSI
3. Choose only WD or Seagate drives, a WD Raptor for the OS
4. Double full automatic switching powersupplies

Just what I run myself.

2. Are they Tyan s-1834d still in production? if so , hell yea, 7 pci slots, dual cpu, 6 GIGS of ram onboard? hell yea...
But last I read dept of defense bought the Tyan contract for them.
3. I did alot of study into the Maxtor, Seagate and WD, Seagate had alot of problems from what people said when it came to longevity, WD was doing fine, and I know im taking a gamble on Fujitsu...
4. Getting one I hope someday if i can find a GOOD one
