I agree! Love my Cocker Spaniel. He is really good with all our neices and nephews. Here's some more pics. The camping pics are from when we first brought him home.Originally posted by NBDesign

Did you know? Llasa's can be dated back to Tibet, hundreds of years ago? They were used as inner guard dogs at monasteries and palaces because of their intelligence, hearing and natural instincts. Lhasa's are known for their ability to tell friend from foe very quickly!
Would be a good dog for you... that is of course unless the lhasa thinks your kid is his enemy...

Heart worms is something easily prevented if you actually knew how to care for your current dog.
You should concern yourself with taking care of the family you have now and not adding more to the list in my honest opinion.
I am reading between the lines here and did not read this thread, but if you are letting your current dog die because of a heart worm problem, I think its ridiculous for you to adopt another one without serious change and commitment to your animal's health on your part.Comment

pug is not advisable for a house with a young child. pick either labrador or golden retriever. they are best for youngsters and has no temper. unlike other dogs, who just snaps when irritated.
or if you want something handy, get a toy manchester. very protective and playful. you'll enjoy the company of that dog.

true.
the best family dog with little kids around might be something like a golden retriever---these are docile animals by nature, yet still protective.
but you say you wanted a small dog, and sometimes smaller is not so good for a family type dog.
steer clear of cocker spaniels, or any highly bred temperemtal types.Comment

You are an idiot. I don't own that dog. It's the parents dog of my g/f. I have never owned a dog.Comment

Breeders are totally evil, they treat dogs like cattle, and pure breeds are inbred and ill-tempered in many cases. Best thing to do is get a little mutt puppy from the pound.Originally posted by CyberAge-Dave
Two sorrys there, one. You have to get another dog.
and Two, they are all already gone.
But you can find breaders around. Make sure the mom and the dad are both pure breeds.Comment

I got some bad luck with a golden retriever. It bit my son right under his eye. 7 stiches it took to close the gap. The scar still reminds us of that mishapp.
the golden is now with a couple without kids and is doing great.
we got ourselves 2 yellow lab sisters. Each and everyday they proof to us how great they are as the number one family dogs.
my advise; take a lab (or beter take 2)

she does have a point though, and that is that a dog is a big responsiblity, they're expensive and they require a LOT of time and attention, just like a child. Be sure you're ready to make the commitment financially and otherwise before you adopt. The shelters are full of surrendered dogs whose owners didn't know what they were getting into.Originally posted by KMR Stitch

I have a black lab and he is great with kids. My two young cousins have a great time playing with him.
He was raised on a farm and easy to train, and was 95% housebroken when I got him at 7 and a half weeks because he was mostly raised outside with his mother and two male dogs... and 7 other pups
dogs learn the best from other dogs.

Cinnamon our Siberian Husky is awesome with kids, (and cats, she's been mothering a kitten for 3 months). We had a Samoyed before that and was equally awesome.
They are inseperable (as you can see), she protects my daughter without question or hesitation and has NEVER growled or snapped at any of us.
Of course they ARE an investment...both physically, emotionally and financially, but this is true regardless of breed. And the rewards for this investment are documented to add years to your life.
...3 dogs and 3 cats
