I agree! Love my Cocker Spaniel. He is really good with all our neices and nephews. Here's some more pics. The camping pics are from when we first brought him home.

Today's Doggie Trivia:
Did you know? Llasa's can be dated back to Tibet, hundreds of years ago? They were used as inner guard dogs at monasteries and palaces because of their intelligence, hearing and natural instincts. Lhasa's are known for their ability to tell friend from foe very quickly!
Would be a good dog for you... that is of course unless the lhasa thinks your kid is his enemy... lol STEP OFF MY PALACE BITCH!
Heart worms is something easily prevented if you actually knew how to care for your current dog.
You should concern yourself with taking care of the family you have now and not adding more to the list in my honest opinion.
I am reading between the lines here and did not read this thread, but if you are letting your current dog die because of a heart worm problem, I think its ridiculous for you to adopt another one without serious change and commitment to your animal's health on your part.
pug is not advisable for a house with a young child. pick either labrador or golden retriever. they are best for youngsters and has no temper. unlike other dogs, who just snaps when irritated.
or if you want something handy, get a toy manchester. very protective and playful. you'll enjoy the company of that dog.

true.
the best family dog with little kids around might be something like a golden retriever---these are docile animals by nature, yet still protective.
but you say you wanted a small dog, and sometimes smaller is not so good for a family type dog.
steer clear of cocker spaniels, or any highly bred temperemtal types.
