HELP with Dell Inspiron 8500

Does anybody here use one? the max res I can get is 1280x800...Though I thought it was capable of at least 1680x1050 ...am I wrong or is my display driver screwed?

Heh, maybe they delivered you a laptop with wrong specs? Because 1280x800 is the standard widescreen size

I also have a Dell Latitude D800 .. with the same size screen and same vid card and it can do 1920x1200 ...witch looks much clearer. I'm wondering if the screen is different somehow hardware wise? or if it is a software issue

I like I said, I think you have a hardware problem there, but to be sure call dell to verify.

I've got an 8200, and the screen rez is 1400x1050, and it can drive a monitor at 1600x1200. Make sure you have the latest video driver from Dell. Some of the earlier ones were pretty buggy.

Bump for daytime help....

Ok so I completely uninstalled all drivers for monitor and vid card ...then installed fresh from the dell support site...still only 1280x800 ... maybe a windows re-install dosn't seem necessary though?

Why don't you go to the Dell website and look it up for yourself?

Call Dells support line.

It should be free and they'll help you.

I think it depends on what screen you got.

the XGA , SXGA+ or UXGA for the 8000 series.

That will will tell you what the max resolution is.

Or i could be on crack and don't know what the fek i'm talking about.
