Here is one that I always wondered about and the reasons why people would prefer one or the other.
My pref is just live together, I don't need the legal papers to say that I am with someone.

Legal papers just lead to legal divorces. I say why get married if you don't think you'll stay together for more than a year. What's the big rush to get married anyway? Just live together for 10 years, if you can do that then you should start thinking of marriage.... Ah, who cares, do whatever makes ya happy!

I'd like to stay a bachelor forever! So um, no to both of those...

But if I were to choose one, I would prefer to get married, not for any religious or symbolic reasons...only because it is a legally binding contract to keep us both in line...

Oz and I lived together for about 5 years before we got married. We have been married for 6 years. We have been a couple for 17 years (and they said it would not last). We tried both ways, I think that had we gotten married when we were younger, we would not have made it this far. It gave us a chance to know who we were as individuals, before we became Mr & Mrs Oz.

Sindy and Rip, same with mrs Lightning and me. We were childhood sweetie, we dated 10 years and just 2 weeks ago was our 13th aniverassary.. thats 23 yrs together...man now reading this, hell I feel like an old man...

I've been with my girlfriend now for 6 years and living together for 5 years and 9 months. Neither of us have any intentions of getting married though as we just don't see any point in doing it.

Me and my hubby were boyfriend and girlfriend when we were 13, and then we got seperated because his parents moved, my parents hated him so would not tell me where he moved to..... we met back up again when we were 18, lived together til I was almost 20 and then got married. So when I say I have been with this man all my life, I damn well mean it. LOL We both dated in the time that we were seperated, but found each other again somehow.......

We got along so well when we were living together, that we made it official 5 weeks after my first baby was born.....

At the time we didn't really want to get married, we got along so well that we didn't want to ruin it, but we wanted to make the baby all official like... so we did it.. and I am so glad we did.

I think that you should DEFINATELY live together for a few years before you get married. If you can get along for like 5 years and still not kill eachother, then go for marriage. I just got married this past August after being with my woman for 9 and a half years, we just hit out 10 year mark for being together. We've been together since we were 16, that's crazy. We've been through a lot of ups and downs growing up, but now we've got all of that behind us and can enjoy life.

My cousin, who met his woman on the same night that I met mine, lived at home, then got married shortly after high school and then moved in. The marriage only lasted a couple of years. The thing is that you have to live with someone to really see how they are. Waiting to get married first before you move in together is just plain stupid, he he.

I have a 2 yr plan.... that i won't stray from. The First part is a 1 yr date. we have to date for at least one year prior to living together. then we move in, and i have to live with her for at least 1 year before WE decide marry, then, well, about 6 months or so later, we could set a date..

Well, I married my girl last October. I had much longer relationships before but i felt, that she's Mrs. Right.
But anyway the main reason for marriage was, that we can't live together without. She's from Russia and there is no other possibility to live & work here than to marry....

Tough question.
Not everybody is right about what they say.
I think it depends a lot on how you raised.
I have tried both.
This is my 2nd marriage and my wifes 3rd.
We met over the net. Lived together for 1 month and then married on Nov,09,1999.
I had my fill of women not knowing what they wanted. Then waiting 7 years down the line to find out. It loads slow becuase of graphics and midi.
