Anyone use 1and1.com for domain regs?

    Good, bad, undecided?

I found an advertisement for 1and1.com in Wired magazine last week, and was curious if anyone here uses them for domain regs? They claim to be " the world?s #1 registrar with 4 million domains already registered!" At $5.99/year, and 1 free e-mail address included, free unlimited e-mail forwarding, free forwarding, masked forwarding, and free domain parking, the offer is hard to ignore. I would save about $7,208/yr on domain holding costs if I were to transfer my domains there. I use DirectNIC now, and they do a great job. I wonder if 1and1.com is comparable? They seem like they have a solid track history. In business for twelve years, maintain 4 world class data centers...ect.

Like most things, you get what you pay for, maybe it is too good to be true? I'm going to do a test with one of my domains, but I'm curious if anyone has experience with them. If so, please post.

Hi, Ive read many horror stories about 1and1.com on forums with both their hosting and domain registration. It seems that once they have your domain they dont want to give it up, and the low price is only promotional to get you in, next year when you go to renew you can bet it wont be that cheap. You should find yourself an enom reseller or become one yourself you can get an 8.95 reseller account for free and lower prices if you want to pay an up front fee. And that way you have way more control over all your domains along with free dns control panel and email forwarding etc.
