    finding photos...

hey ppl... im working on a web site for a commercial client and i need some pics of people working in an office etc. does anyone know of anywhere i can get some photos off the net, that doesnt cost anything, is legal, and i dont need to link back to them etc...?

ive been having a look but everywhere seems to be asking for links and or payment for the photos... i would have thought that there would be somewhere i could get a couple off images for free..

Royalty-free photos cost 20-30 per photo, unless you need 100s of them, I suggest you go this route.

      Checkout www.gettyimages.com.

Getty has no free section and it's WAY more expensive to license an image than 20-30 bucks - 300-400 bucks and it's complicated.

vast majority of Getty images you see on websites including affiliate program sites and banners are ripped off.

istockphoto looks the best value for money that i have seen so far...

i am not doing the website for free, but obviously want to maximise my profits...

for those who have used istockphoto:
                      1. once i purchase an image, can i then use it in any design i want forever?
                      2. do they accept payment via paypal?
                      3. i noticed they have a section there where you can upload your own photography and gain credit from it... does anyone here do that? does that mean i can just take pics with my digital camera and upload them? or do i have to get copyright on each shot? and how do you go about doing that?

I was at gettyimages.com yesterday and they wanted $2200 for 1 picture for 5 years. That wasn't even exclusive. I don't know how they justify that.

This is where my next million is coming from!

You might find something here: http://browse.deviantart.com/stockar...der=5&limit=24

But it's all personal submissions and with differant preferences on usage. Istockphoto is pretty good though.

yeah... with backgrounds and textures that can work... but for this specific situation i really need a photo, which would have a model in it in the office etc. hence to make it unrecognisable would defeat its purpose...

Consider the risk of using photos that you did not commission directly, and have complete model and site releases for. Yes, you need rights for the setting, as well.

Your client could get their asses sued, and then they come for you, and your reputation is destroyed.

Almost certainly you underbid on this project thinking the photos would be cheap or free.

That is not the way "commercial" works.

Commercial use of a photo is costly. $200 is very cheap, and $1,000 is not overly expensive.

If you want to do this properly, hit me up. I have a proper office site and models.

                                    Cheers
