I see that the main bad guy (don't know his name...don't read the books) is Gary Oldman. I'm going to check it out this weekend.

Not true. You will have to read the book or see the movie to understand. But Gary Oldman is in it. Does a great job as Sirius Black.

I personally enjoyed this film. But I am also a huge fan of the books and the way the films have been done. I think it was a huge step to bring on a new director and let him run with the darker aspect that the story begins to tell starting with the 3rd book and this 3rd film.

Just waiting for the 4th one. Suppose to be 4 hours long. As requested by the fans.

OOoohhh!!! Gary Oldman??? Now I'm triply excited about seeing it!!

Has anybody read any Philip Pullman?
http://www.randomhouse.com/features/pullman/

These books are ten times better than the Harry Potter books.

Gary Oldman?

Does he ever play anything except for Villains these days?

Watching Gary Oldman as a villain is enough sometimes to watch a movie.

I was seriously going to start this thread this morning. Since you did, I'll hijack ;)

DO NOT GO SEE THE HARRY POTTER MOVIE!!!
Not to come off as one of the bookish geeks, this 3rd installment was the FURTHEST from the JK Rawlings books yet. The director of the first two movies stepped down - He was a STORYTELLER. This new director is AN ARTIST.

*TEASER WARNING*
They nearly Completely cut out the Marauder's Map. The backstory to it is completely missing! They don't even explain who those four characters (Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail and Prongs) even are!!! The beginning of "Goblet" almost REQUIRES this knowledge. Overall, the first two were the most true-to-book so far. This one veers way off track.

According to Entertainment Weekly the new director went to Rawlings for approval on a BUNCH of new things - things that weren't in the book. He added a clock tower to the campus (to tie in with the time travel at the end of the film) but she nixed his idea to put a graveyard on-campus. 142 minutes long (almost 2 1/2 hours), by far the shortest Potter movie yet. Fans will be sadly disappointed. We were. Lucky us, we get the next movie dumped on us at Christmas (november) just in time for major marketing efforts. In the next film, they originally wanted to make TWO movies from "... The Goblet of Fire" but that got shot down too. I suppose that means they'll just chopped out a bunch of interesting backstory instead.

You'll really have to twist my arm to go see the next one.

For those of you "WOW THOSE SPECIAL FX KIKZ AZZ" well... You just don't get it. The allure of the Potter series (both book AND movie) for the majority of people is the STORYTELLING, not the fx. Sure they were neat. But I felt I missed out on so much story for a 5 minute montage of shit freezing when the dementors appeared. Come on!

Go if you want to, but i wish i hadn't wasted my $$ on it.

Yup, him and Christopher Walken have saved many terrible movies.

This movie looks great as far as movies go.

I am trying to get Tanker to take me to it tonight.

IF it is unlike the book that is sad because Scottie is right it is the Storytelling and the tying together of even minute details that have made the books and past movies so wonderful.

I am still looking forward to it though just to see how someone can spin another person's story. I like to watch for the gaps and silences to see where there has been changes and try to decide why.

In all fairness, you shouldn't expect this Harry Potter movie to be as good as ROTK; I mean, ROTK is already considered one of the all time classics. HP movies are just supposed to be a lot of fun, not works of art like the LOTR movies.

only two more days now.. can't wait. I know it won't be as good as the book, but c'mon you can't expect it to be - s'what happens when you cut down a novel to fit into 2.5 hours.

I'll agree some of us (myself included) are a little over-obsessed with comparing books to movies. Yet, READ THE BOOKS! They *ARE* good, and reading is F-U-N FUN! lol Seriously though, people should read more. Reading helps expand the imagination, and broadens one's vocabulary and grammar. How many retards post here that can't form a complete sentence? No further questions, Your Honour.
