Harry Potter: Book vs Movie

Just came back from the 3rd movie and was VERY disappointed!

Im a big fan of the books, i think the story line is just brilliant and expected the movie to be just as good. However, there were so many pieces missing that the movie just became impossible to understand if you havent read the book. It isnt even clear who the bad guy is in the movie.

Very disappointed... such a great story and such a shitty movie.

a movie will never be as good as the book.. unless the book is particularly bad.. a fan of the book can only ever see the movie as an interpretation of the book or as a treat to see the book's universe brough to life.. you are never goingt o recapture the initial feeling. I've seen plenty of shorts and i think it's going to be great. even though i know they've cut a lot (the book is longer than the last two but the movie is shorter).. wait until the next two come out, there will be some serious complaining going on as books twice as big are only 2.5 hours long.

Just back from the movie myself. Couldn't believe all the details that were left out. One glaring one is that they never explained the map, how it came to exist, and what the names meant on it.

I'll consider myself warned.
Man and to think book three is my fave.
Well then, maybe the new director's not as good as former director Chris Columbus.

Maybe they assumed that since it's the third installment, everybody knows the story already...

Well anyway, the Weasley twins gave the map to Harry so he can sneak out to Hogsmeade...the wizard's village close to Hogwarts...

When they are comparing shit to shit.. its easy to say this isn;t as shitty as those ones.

It'll still make 400+ million at the box office.

I know the story of the map. I've read the books. To me it wasn't made obvious that the names on the map were nicknames of the four friends (including Harry's father) or that all 4 were actually friends at Hogwarts. It also means that Harry's father was an animangus which possibly foreshadows the same happening to Harry in future books.

The movie will never be as good as the book is.. that's for sure.

If you are fan of the book you should know that... and it happens in general with movies made from great book stories.

Just remember the movie can't possibly have everything in the book unless they make it 5 hours long....

I haven't seen the movie yet, but POA is my favorite of the books so far...

I still miss Peeves The Ghost in the movies....

They need to leave a lot out of the theater release so they can put it all back in for the DVD.

originally we were only expecting 7 books - one for each year harry is at hogwarts. but rumor has it that the author may continue the series past that...

the map was made by harry's father and the father's friends when they were at hogwarts. their nicknames - which are all they used on the map, which is why harry doesn't recognize the names - are a clue to something about them.

so it's really too bad that is left out.

i plan to see it on monday - even if it's not as good. what the heck! after all, i know all those details that might be left out ;-)

Goblins and trolls have been around a little longer than Harry Potter.

I'd go for the book. movies never come near one's imagination. unless you're a dork.
