I was prescribed it once for severe pain. I was on it daily for about 3 or 4 weeks. It was awesome for pain. I am not an addictive person, so no problems here. But, if you don't need it, don't take it.:)

Nope, don't drink, but point taken on the cigs. Of course it took MUCH longer than 1 or 2 a day for a few weeks to get hooked on them.:winkwink:

But, I don't like pain pills, so I didn't really worry about taking the oxycontin.

it can be very addictive, even though its awesome as hell, i say stick with weed :2 cents:

So you're saying he should take a pill that is time released so it doesn't kill you and cut it in half before he takes it? :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

yeah, and if you turn your faucet on and dip it under a few times, the coating comes right off

also when you crush it up the time release coating will go into chunks and you can get rid of it that way also

i have taken oxy's for years, never a lot at once or for more than 1 pill a week, and I have not taken them for weeks at a time too.....and I am not addicted....they are fun, but like any drug if they are not taken in moderation they can be evil

cluck 06-05-2004 04:45 PM

Ahh you're all worry warts. If I had the stuff I'd just mainline it. You might as well get the most bang for your buck.

It really depends on the person you are.....

I'm not a addictive person only thing I can't shake is ciggies....
Though I know many people who put there addiction above anything I am getting fucked by a good friend who has lost everything do to his addictions......

So I think you did right thinig in flushing it.....

I have taken Oxycocet after my bike accident last year. 6 Broken ribs and 2 fractured ankles. It was great for pain ! But it took me weeks to get off it after, and its not as powerful as Oxycontin :2 cents:

you and me both....i can do rock star amounts of drugs for weeks on end that should kill me instantly, and nothing makes me addicted.....but cigarettes have me by the balls!

After my surgery 2 years ago and that stuff sucks! I got sicker than hell. I've been on more potent stuff (morphine drip while I was in the hospital) but oxy is bad news IMO. :helpme

Indeed, as stereotypical as this statement this is - I find it very true for some. Opiates work, whereas you need to continually double your dosage to receive the same effect. Hence the enevitable addition and potential OD occurance. However, as stated, with moderate usage, in addition to some will power/non addictive in nature person. Using once every two weeks? If not once a week, I found it very believable to live a relatively normal life, without the hardaches of addiction, failure, hitting rock bottom - etc etc, a la the usual painful "I did drugs now look at me" story.

So, yes, for once it's refreshing to see GFY users give helpful advice, rather than being assholes and encouraging it's usage. However, I think we're perpuating the wrong image this time. Oxy Contin does not kill people. Oxy contin would not be FDA approved if it did.

Let's stop blaming the powerful "euphoric" effect of the drug. And blame those who continually abuse various substances in efforts of escaping the hells of their life.

well, um...taking the whole 40 would be more powerful than splitting it in half...duh

the only difference between cutting it and taking it whole is the time it takes to get into your system

how about you explain that?

when drugs are taken in moderation, they make you feel good, give you a break from life for a short time, and don't have negative effects....

i will never understand abusing drugs til your life is ruined, to me THAT makes no sense, but I will always advocate the use of drugs reponsibly

They aren't something to play with.. I was dependent on them for over three years because I had a series of surgeries and I'm still taking doses of methadone to this day. I almost died from withdrawl, my blood preasure rose so high, they kept me in the hospital for 2 nights. Believe me, some people say they can shake it, but not if you've been taking them for a long long period of time. You will die, and it's a very scary feeling when a doctor tells you so.
