Porn sites get more traffic than search engines
http://www.webpronews.com/news/ebusi...chEngines.html
While search engines dominate the Internet news topics, another form of surfing seems to be dominating web use. According to a study done by Hitwise, a company that measures online performance, amongst other services, shows that online porn sites receive more traffic than search engines do. The report revealed that the "Search Engines and Directories" category received up to 13.87% of all Internet traffic. 5.5% of this traffic went to the big three of the search engine industry: Google, Yahoo, and MSN. However, adult-orientated sites received 18%. Rounding out the top five of the categories that Hitwise measured are: Entertainment at 8.0 percent Business and Finance at 7.4 percent Shopping and Classifieds at 7 percent While this report indicates that people like their adult entertainment, it also revealed what the most popular search engine is, based on Internet traffic. Of all search engines, Google (imagine that), received 2.7%. Yahoo and MSN had 1.7% and 1.1%, respectively. The news of adult-orientated sites being the most popular comes as little surprise. A study of WordTracker's weekly list of top keywords shows that porn-related searches are always prevalent |
