I have to reformat EVERY FUCKING TIME I get spyware

2 times in a month, this is insane!

I've used spysweeper, adaware, spybot search and destroy and cw shredder and they delete it all, but the spyware just regenerates itself.
I can't even look at my own sites because with all the porn keywords my spyware crashes.
These people who write this shit are fucking bastards

yeah, i feel you on the spyware thing. I probably need to reformat, my install is at least a year old, but win2k seems to run pretty smooth and not get bogged down like some other versions of windoz

things seem to be getting worse with the spyware shit. my parents had to get their drive formatted, they took it in to get it cleaned, couldn't get rid of it. i couldn't get rid of it either. each time i would delete the registry entries it would just come right back.

I agree. I have seen some messy computers and with that combo you shouldn't have to reformat.

When computers were invented we had to watch out for viruses
When the internet was invented we had to watch out for hackers
and now this whole spyware thing. Running virus scanners, hacker firewall protection, and antispyware software slows our computers down. What do you think is the next threat.

Try Windows Update with Norton Antivirus and surf with Netscape if you aren't able to control IE.

Believe me..try the one in my sig..it works..I'm impressed

I just went through hell and back with n-case and blazefind. A couple of the programs said they removed it but didn't. Removing it manually through directions on nortons site as well as others failed because the file names they told us to look for were not there. The only one to actually find the correct file names was Spyware BeGone. I was too cheap to spend the $40 bucks to get it to remove it (scan is free, ya have to buy it to remove it)...but it was nice enough to give us the file name/path of the files. We manually deleted and it was finally gone.

Having said that though, we used about 6 different spyware programs right in a row trying to get rid of it. While none of them got rid of it, each found new spyware the previous ones did not. It appears that there isn't a single one I found that finds and removes them all. Looks like from now on I will have to run all of them to keep my computer clean.

You can thank the greedy programs who are desperately trying to hang onto what little chance at business they have after the past 12 months of culling.

Can't get webmasters to promote your program? Never fear - just buy traffic off one of the companies installing toolbars & bipass webmasters all together!!

The 2 biggest offenders are Hooper's programs & AdultCash.com ... but I'm sure there are many others I haven't had the pleasure of getting yet Just another example of people trying to achieve success at the expense of others

Add up how many hours each spyware company has cost you & we can all send them a group invoice

Well, spybot search and destroy is all I've ever needed. It does NOT remove everything automatically though. Most stuff, yes. I still end up having to fix my browser home page and manually remove browser helpers and activeX downloads but Spybot Search and Destroy DOES show me where they're at so I can disable them.

I've had to reformat recently due to the same problem. I was trying to send out an ecard. My install was about 11 months old so it was almost within range of formatting time anyway (12 to 24 months is what i consider time).

Usually I can find a way to get rid of adware but it does take a lot of work and effort to do so (and much time and frustration). Best offense is good defense. Install defensive software first, setup only the programs you need and trust and stay away from plugins and software that aren't well known brand names.

Now, I keep a spare computer for ecards, new software, 'cool' forwards and other crap like that cuz they always seem to be laden with adware. If you stay away from games, gizmos and gadgets, and stay on trusted sites and keep your main computer just for photoshop and ftp or whatever is essential to your work, then you should be able to stay away from adware. Everyone in this industry should have two computers!! Never let a guest onto your work machine, give them the guestbox.

TIP: many already know this but since you've reformated with every adware, perhaps you don't. many adwares don't come up in google but do if you search within norton's support section for the url your homepage was set to, it will tell you what you have and how to get rid of it.

TIP2: if you do get adware, be careful of adware removal software cuz several of them are adware themselves. it's easy to get caught up with the problem, not be careful and add yet more adware onto your computer.

good fucking luck, adware sucks, just stay away!!

Yup, why use 5 different tools to catch spyware and trojans when you can elliminate more than 90% of them by NOT using IE.

Wild Tangent is a Yahoo games component (if i remember correctly). It is also used for delivery of AIM games as well. Should be removable from control panel

NCASE is ad delivery Security Response & Removal

CoolWebSearch (aka Trojan.Norio) is a browser hack Security Response & Removal

FreeComm is a browser hack Security Response & Removal

The manual removal steps should get you past these. Removing items in the registry alone will not remove the entire ad/spyware. Sometimes you gotta dig quite a bit to get all the pieces. 1) Check your startup routine (msconfig), then check in x:\Program Files for folders like NCASE, etc. You may not be able to delete these folders unless in safe mode due to a dll being loaded.

Just some options anyway, if you haven't done all this already

I downloaded this program yesterday, and it's a lot better than Ad Aware and Spy Bot

This debate goes back to the old Norton vs McAfee brawl. Everybody has their preference. You won't know which program you like better until you try them all -- and that's my suggestion. Download every program mentioned on this thread and run every one of them once a week

hey guys this is my first post. anyways here are some important points:

1- adaware and spybot search and destroy search for different types of items, so it is good to run both, in addition to any other sopftware you may be running

2-modify your msconfig->startup items as described

***IMPORTANT STEP (THIS IS WHERE SOME HIDE SO YOU CANNOT REMOVE THEM WITHOUT DELETING ENTRIES MANUALLY)***
3-in regedit check this as a a lot of items can be started without actually being in the startup up section of msconfig
my computer->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->Microsoft->Shared Tools->MSConfig and checK BOTH STARTUP AND STARTUPREG. remember to delete any folders created by spyware/adware unless you like them sitting on your system waiting to be run

4-get pop up blocker software as most items are distributed by simple and harmless looking pop ups

update and run your anti-virus/adware/spyware software once or twice a week and you should be good to go

i hope this helps and if any of you are looking for a graphic/scripting person be sure to hit me up.

-myke

here is a list of software i use:
norton corporate edition
adaware
spybot search & destroy
registry crawler
