I've started re-building my groups and pumping them back up lately.

I always advise a moderated group as it's easier to deal with spam and illegal pics (the LAST thing you want is a questionable picture hitting your group). I also suggest opening a seperate group for each sponsor and talking to them about using their content to promote the group. If they don't want the traffic, fuck them and send it to someone who does...

I'm also looking into MSN Groups, but they are really full of spam and the sheer number makes it a little harder to build.

If you want to know some other dirty little inside secrets about yahoo group promotion, I'll have an ebook for sale within the next month or so (sorry, I can't take knowledge I've built tirelessly over the years and just give it away for free ;-)))

If your ebook is $10 or less, I'll order a copy.:)

We had one of these a while back for one of our pay sites...the traffic was good and it gives you the chance to promote amongst the group and encourage them to actively recruit members. All was going well untill one day out of the blue yahoo nuked the group and all the owners accounts.

Might have to set up another one soon i think

yup, this is the most important thing...stay within their TOS

I made the mistake of getting a little too "promotion crazy" with some older yahoo groups and they went bye-bye (along with a decent, steady stream of income)

Nice idea re ebook :)

Usefull info would be where to find a handy dandy YG bot that will automate the joining, adding of links and can email the groups discreetly over a 24 hour period.

And that traffic is good!

collegeclam 06-01-2004 10:35 PM

nice tip. i began doing it 3 years ago, which made me buy a domain....the egroups served as a trial - if i can get people here, ill make a site was what i thought.

basically, the egroups is pretty decent if you do it right.

cool that you posted the link this "tip" came from, should have some other interesting traffic material. thx.

sinkiss 06-01-2004 10:42 PM

that was a really good article. added it to my favorites so i could refer back to it. thanks for the tips and the link. :thumbsup

collegeclam 06-01-2004 10:42 PM

edit - the bitchnporn link isnt as good as i thought it was. it hasmany moderated groups that prevent members from posting messages, which arent worth joining. what you want to do is be able to post messages and add your link. knock down both tasks with each group and youll get some traffic. the more places your visible, the better chances you have of being clicked.

I prefer moderated on most of my groups so I can control the content and spamming...I'll occasionally open a non-moderated group for discussion of the niches as well as the ability to promote other groups under different names ;-)

Well this article sparked intrest to actually sign up for a accnt. To much lurking for me. Anyways if any one is intrested i control ALOT of yahoo names with ALOT of groups signed up for them and utilites to easily mail the groups.....if you catch my drift ;)

So porn is banned under Yahoo Groups' TOS?

I believe OBSCENITY is banned not porn. There is a LEGAL (and BIG) difference.

Dirty D 06-02-2004 02:08 AM

I disagree that 9 of 10 Sponsor programs don't allow Yahoo Group Traffic.

We allow Yahoo Group Traffic.
All Yahoo Groups are Double Opt In, so there is not TOS problem.

I ave met with Yahoo to discuss payments and we talked about the the newsgroups. I explained they were a good tool for online marketing yet they do not permit commercial gains to made from their service.

If they charged I would pay for my groups, surfers know how to use the functionality and know their way around the screen etc so it makes them dead easy convert into money spinners.

If you're looking for newsletter/yahoogroups type traffic try www.mycommunitymail.com They don't censor for porn. However, all content must be LEGAL.

Bake 06-02-2004 10:07 PM

Are you going to offer a service that dose this for a fee?

This thread just made me an assload of money.

All I had to do was upload some toons to my groups and voila! Once I'm done figuring out what else is going on I'll post again.

9 times out of 10 I've gotten emails from group members and surfers saying how they liked the toon I posted earlier in this thread, that lead them to my site which lead to signups.

Members are cool but FANS are better.

Fans are the future for small time program/paysite owners. You only need a handfull of fans to run a decent paysite...

Strobi, you just hit the nail right on the head.

It's what I've been saying ever since I got into this biz.

You don't need umpteen gillion people just anywhere from 500 to 1,000 loyal fans who'll pay you $10 to $20 per month minimum to make great loot in this biz. Keep your overhead low, satisfy your fans and you can roll on.

Some guys have 5,000 websites and don't make shit. Some guys have 2 or 3 and make a fortune.

It's about quality and communication. Plain and simple. That's where groups come in because it's like having an opt-in gallery and emal and newsletter all rolled into one.

I just found out you can make your own groups from your own website. Too techy for me but I'm sure one of you gurus can do this.

In the past 72 hours I have been on a big ass lucky streak. Stats are rising and overhead is lowering. I'll be debt free in a few days.

It's not like umbillion people are signing up for my groups. It's that the surfers are SEEING the group and clicking to the paysite and/or affiliates or linking TO me.

Fans. Plain and simple. Make your site 'Fan Friendly' and give them a sense that there's a real person there and they'll sign up and stay.

Just ONE promo toon did this all. It's always worked for me since day one. I'll do more.

If anybody wants to trade links for promo toons hit me up via email.

Rictor 06-05-2004 01:15 PM

You can always send your Yahoo group traffic to one of your own sites...a paysite review site or a full-page ad...or send traffic to your galleries. That way you aren't sending traffic directly from a Yahoo Group to a sponsor.

Another tip, Yahoo has recently been killing accounts but leaving the groups intact. This is a big problem if your group site is a NEWSLETTER site or MODERATED. Always have moderators --the more accounts the better, so they can help you out when your creator account is killed.

it may be because you place the adult group in an inapproriate category. all adult groups have to go in the adult/romance or something like that. i had a group a few years ago in the wrong cat, got deleted, had to start new one.

collegeclam 06-11-2004 04:14 PM

you know what, i was thinking totally different when i posted that.

what i do with the groups is much different. i used to have a group that had 5000+ members, and that was moderated. that got deleted. didnt take long to gain members since i had uploaded a nice chunk of pics myself and made pics available only to members.

but lately, ive been joining as many groups as possible, opting to recieve zero email, and posting to them all at once, maybe a few times a month.

Groups traffic kicks ass. When Excite had groups, I owned 60 of them and got 60k of traffic a month from them. Those were the days! Like someone said, always have back ups!
