I Was with the danish part of the UN Forces however most time under either Brittish or US command. We mostly got assigned to patrol missions and base defence .

A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune.

The enraged Taliban Commander musters one thousand fighters and sends them across the dune. Cannon, rocket and machine gun fire ring out as a huge battle is fought. Then silence. Eventually one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any more men, it's a trap, ...there's actually two of them."

I wouldn't say there is one overall "best" unit all are very effective at their specific tasks and duties!!

I've met guys from the delta force, seals, SAS, Aussie SAS, Dk and some other units you'll never here about and their damn good guys !!!

The guy who founded the Delta Force, before this undertaking SAS training here in the uk, said if he had 1000 men trained the same way as the SAS is in jungle warfare then Vietnam might have been a different story!!

I'm proud to have met and served with some of these guys from the units above!! Damn fine men everyone of them!!

I've got a few family members who were/are NZ SAS - they're mostly bushmen/pighunters before they join. I understand the the Vietnam-era NZSAS are some of the best regarded bush soldiers.

We never really hear about there deployments in this country, but I know they're some of the most active units along with Aussie and UK SAS...Aaron

How is that ? I served with Marine Corps Force Recon and did a few training ops with Navy Seals and Trained with the British Royal Marines. I have never heard at any point that we spent time with canadians doing anything other then Moutain and cold weather training.

Personal I think the countries with the best special forces around would be:

British
Russians

no elite corp in the world can follow and endure the training of the french foreign legion. more over in '91 the american screaming eagles were advancing in their bradleys thinking they were the first to cross the frontier into iraq and they have been surprised to see that the whole foreign legion was already here and took the place since 12 hours making shitloads of prisoners , and i got this story from guys of the 82nd.

on another note when there are multinational excercices like " cobra gold" and the french foreign legion is involved , all the other countries are learning from them.

when the airborne is going to train in france they just fear playing the game with the FFL, even know a guy who got his two thumbs broken with a gun handle while "playing" a prisoner.

i'm reporting here about the FFL as i've read a lot of bullshit from people who have not even been in the army. i have friends in the FFL, in the US marines, in the us airborne. all are agreeing that the most feared and effective force is the French Foreign Legion.

but mind that they are fighter and might not be as good as seals for undercover work.

Gotta back bluedevil here. Not saying there wasn't any cross-training with Canada, just never with us either.

It was a very short stint becuase they were short a man for what they need to do during some training excerses. I was the only one at the time that could keep up with them. I couldnt do it today.

I've heared that Frenchs are very good.

I was raised believing that the Army Green Berets were the best. My dad was airborne with nearly 400 jumps. Haha, my mom even jumped out of planes like 10 times. Anyhow, Dad was a jumpmaster for the HALO team, served in Vietnam, and did some other stuff in Turkey too. He was a staff seargant when he got out.
Bottom line, there are badasses all over in all of the different units. I think the question is really too broad to be answered correctly. However, I saw a crazy video about the Delta Force, and those dudes are pretty outragous. :2 cents:

Well, I've been reading books about special forces for about all myu life. UK SAS is VERY good, and although Delta is at about the same level, the SAS is just a little faster. But that seems about the only thing. They train a lot together and stuff.
Foreign Legion is also very badass, a guy I know served with them in Beirut and they shot a shitload of badguys ove there. Foreign Legion also has a counter-terrorsquad that's pretty badass, but I wouldn't count on the FFL to go in somewhere quietly. It's mostly boys with their high-explosive toys.

Seals are bad ass well, but since a lot of the people from delta are taken from Seals and Rangers, my guess is delta is better. However, since they have different specialtis, you can't really compare them.
Force Recon also kicks ass of course, as well does the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team (HRT).

Just my 2 cents.
