will I damage my PC if I change around the fan power cords while pc is on?

Will I get shocked or fry something? I want to unplug one of the 4 pin connectors on one of the fans and plug it into a different 4 pin connector. should i turn off the pc to do it?

Umm...

Yes.

Infact you should never work with hardware while it is on.

The results are unpredictable like sticking your hand in a blender standin on water next to an electrical socket.

No, absolutely do not turn off your power supply. Follow these steps exactly when you play with your motherboard:

1) Attach a 20' metal rod to your roof during the next lightning storm.

2) Climb your local power pole and sever the lines with your pocket knife. Be sure to hold on to both ends simultaneously when you return to the ground.

3) Go get a bucket of water, place your left foot in it.

After this is all complete remove whatever hardware you want while the power is turned on and plug it in to whatever plug looks good at the time.

It's always better to be on the safe side, but it shouldn't really be a problem.

Haha, I did this by accident the other day, I had just added another hard drive to my system and I still had the side of the case off. I switched it on to see if it was going to boot, and I got an error message saying I had forgotten to plug the power cable to my video card back in. (I had to unplug it because the cables were a mess inside my case and I was trying to straighten them out).

Being the dumbass that I am, I plugged it back in while the power was on without even thinking. There was a big old spark and the system shut down. I can't believe I never fried anything or got a shock.

So ya, turn the friggin power off.

You can unhook the power to the fan without having to worry. If you have to unplug a device such as a hard drive or CD/DVD-rom then i would power down the computer.

I wouldn't trust any of the advice you're getting on GFY. You'd be better off asking your Ferrari mechanic for help.

Some of us have been playing with computer parts for well over 10 years now and probably have a clue as to how some of the shit works

well if by damage you mean, short yer motherboard, blow yer power supply and possibly fry a few other components....... yes you can/will
