How much is the unemployment rate in your country?

In Poland it's currently 20%.

How about your country
Can you beat it?

7.3% here in Canada, as of April 2004.

I don't know how they measure unemployment over there, but over here unemployed is anyone who's of the 'standard employable age' (18-65) who is not incarcerated, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to work (permanent disability, etc). People working part-time jobs are considered employed.

Well, in fact it is probably more like 16%, since many people are on welfare but work illegally.

In general, polish economy is fucked up, because of stupid and corrupt politicians ( well, at least not as corrupt as in Russia ).
Furthermore Poland has 50-years communism experience so it has changed people's mentality and they want the state to help them, they don't want to rely on themselves.
So the politicians want to always win the elections so they don't make unpopular decisions to reform the economy...

Not sure where are you from but it was Schroeder who sugested that we even increase taxes so that EU as a whole can better compete against the US, ...... while everyone knows that less taxes and less burocracy = better economy and faster development.
Both burocracy and taxes should be reduced in Poland as well as whole EU. That's IMO the only way nowadays.

9,2% in Spain (6% men, 13% women).

But i don't trust that numbers because lots of job is created temporary for tourism, for example in Summer is easy to get a job here at disco, bars, restaurants, hotels etc. as Spain has one of the biggest tourism industries in Europe.
In the other hand, lots of housewifes and students join the unemployment lists just to get free or even paid formation for some jobs.

7.4 isn't too bad.

I agree... especially when you consider that 'unemployed' here includes people who have given up looking for work but are still considered employable. We count "discouraged workers" as part of the unemployed.

If we left those guys off the books (to generate a number more in-line with those from the south) we'd have a number substantially lower, probably in the realm of around 4% or so. A quick check on non-disabled welfare recipients of employable age would yield our equivalent to 'discouraged' (with some proviso's for single mothers and so forth).

The US rate is 5.5 percent which falls in the realm of Full employment if you have studied Economics. Anything over 6% is not good.

In Australia the rate at present is 5.6 per cent. And, as Treasurer Peter Costello delights in reminding us, this is as low as it's been in 23 years.
