Don't you hate bringing up religion?

The only difference between a religion and a cult is the number of followers

Try telling that to very religious people....really pisses them off heh

Years ago, I stopped trying to convince Christians that they are wrong and decided instead that I would just explain where I was coming from so they could live in peace with me.

Me: "Tell me, do you believe in the Koran. Do you believe in Allah as the one true God. Do you believe Mohammed was right?"

Christian: "Of course, not."

Me: "Why?"

The Christian will give reasons here.

Me: "And tell me, why do you think the Hindus are wrong. Don't you believe in Brahma, Vishnu and Siva?"

Christian "No, of course not".

The Christian will give reasons here.

I keep going on like this. I cover all the major religions, cover some dead religions, throw in some mythologies. I really make them work at it. I try to draw every objection out of them I can.
I ask them how it is they think that millions or billions of people can come to believe religions which aren't true. I ask them what psychological reasons people might have needed to start and believe these religions. (Of course, you can see where this is going)

Then I say "Now if you think of all those reasons you just gave. If you think about all the reasons why you think those people are supersticious and why they are wrong, and why they created those religions and how they spread and how millions and millions of people came to believe them maybe you can see and understand why it is that I don't believe in YOUR religion."

i try to avoid religious conversation at all costs. because its only going to make me scoff and belittle some idiots faith. and i dont like doing that, unless im drunk
