Anyway this thread was about the film, if you guys feel its better to just say "read the book" instead of posting anything else, why even bother? Why not just skip over the thread?

Either give me some insight or mve on man, no one makes you guys look in here.

Ill read the book when I have some time to kill, other than that the movies are much easier to just throw on while I work.

the problem is this:
it's almost impossible to completely understand the movies without reading the books. Peter Jackson had to leave so much out to even fit it into 3 hours. We could try to explain it, but it would take so long, you would probably rather not listen to it.

but...

here's the brief sum up: Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf & the elves are all leaving middle earth because their time is over.

The destruction of the one ring is the end of the third age, and all of them are tied to the ring. Frodo & Bilbo because the bore it for so long, Gandalf because it was his purpose in middle earth to orchastrate (sp?) the destruction of the ring & the fall of sauron.

the elves are leaving because the next age of middle earth is the age of men - elves have to part to play in that age.

there will be no more story that takes place after the third movie. Jackson surely will push to do the Hobbit, but I doubt any of Tolkiens work beyond the hobbit will make it to film. The Silmarillion is too hard to follow for most folks.

As someone else said, if you want to know what happens after Return Of The King, there is a timeline in the book that gives a brief summary of Sam, Merry & Pippin & their deeds after ROTK.

*whew*

still....read the books.

The elves cant live alongside mankind?

hehehe after this ill ask no more ?'s and i will read the books.

the ending didnt make sense to me.

I'm not a real die hard fan, but as far as I know Tolkien doesn't say exactly. I think the elves represent the forces of good to saurons forces of evil. Once sauron is defeted for good, there is no need for them.

the first three ages of middle earth deal with the war bewteen morgoth, sauron & orcs vs. the elves, dwarves & men.

here's a link to some timelines for the various ages of middle earth

Sadly enough I agree with you, when I saw it in the theater I thought the same thing. I loved the movie, the ending I would have changed, it was drawn out, but when you look at the movie as a 9 hour work, the ending wrapping it up was rather short. I suggest read the books first, then watch the film. You will be much happier because you can fill in the blanks the movie left out.

I haven't seen any of these Lord of the Rings movies and I honestly don't really care if I ever do.

Fantasy just isn't my bag.

I've watched the movie a few times now (downloaded the dvd a couple months ago) and I ALWAYS turn it off right after the king says "my friends, you bow to no one" and then all the people bow to the 4 hobbits.

To me, that was so amazing.. I don't need to see anything that comes after that moment.

If there was one moment in the movie that could make me want to cry, that's it.

No in total there'll be 2-3 hours more movie to it.
I read it in various magazines and I thought it's a pretty known fact.

The S.E.E. have much more story to it, Peter Jackson said himself that he just didn't feel like it would be good to add it to the cinema version so he shot the extra scenes and put them on DVD.

Here's a link to the Two Towers S.E.E. and as I said:

Quote:
A new version of the second installment includes over 40 minutes of never-before-seen footage incorporated into the film. (approx. 208 minutes)
For the Third movie there'll also be more footage and this boils down to a total of 2-3 hours of extra movie.

Here's the link to the Two Towers S.E.E.
