Why are landscapers so unrealiable?

Last yr, I had a great service... never missed a mowing but this yr, they had family problems and one of the brothers wasn't that professional... he asked me for gas $$ to come out, lol. On a positive note, the other brother called me a few wks ago but I had a relationship with my new service (below)

Then I get another co, which was good for 3 wks, then they stopped coming. Apparently, someone passed and the replacement person never showed.

So, I'm on the phone this morning trying to get someone... I REFUSE to cut my grass... did it a few times when I was young. I'm not a mowing type person

Maybe immigration caught them and sent them back to Mexico.

I started my own lawn service/landscaping business years ago. I had a friend that was in the business and he got into some trouble with the law. He approached me after the fact and told me his story. He needed some $$$ to hire some decent legal counsel. He offered me $10,000+ worth of equipment for $1,500. It was too good to pass up, so I picked it up. I lasted one growing season and dumped it. Reason? Unreliable labor. EVERYONE I hired was either:

A) A Drunk

B) Into Drugs

C) Had Major Family Problems

or

D) All Of The Above.

Your woes probably have something to do with the above Good luck

That's a sign for you to find a new company...

Any semi-professional company would have asked you to pay a "fuel surcharge" due to the high price of gas, and not just for some gas money lol

We're having some probs here too, the landscaping guy is employed by the landlord and is supposed to mow the lawn every 3 weeks... first few times he came without fail, left a card saying when his next visit would be. Then he misses his next appointment and I don't see him for 1 1/2 months. Suddenly one day I hear him in the yard, I was in the shower so I couldn't get to him in time. He didn't leave a card so I have no idea when he's going to turn up again.

I'm not the one paying him (directly, anyway) but it's still nice to know in advance when someone is going to be walking through your garage and into your backyard...

If it is just mowing and little things. This is when you should seriously look into using child labor.
Find a 12-14 year old who will stop by every sunday to cut the grass. If they pocket 20.00 or so they will not miss a day ever.
Ok sometimes they need more if its a big yard.
