How else are the republican business owners going to ensure an under-educated, low paid work force for the future?

You do realize that education is funded at the state level right? The federal government does give a little bit to the states for things like subsidized school lunch and some after school programs, but this amounts to a drop in the bucket of over all education spending.

Maybe you don't like "no child left behind" but something had to be done. The education system in the US was fucked way before Bush became president. The democrats are too closely tied to the teachers union to do what needed to be done. Teachers generally are against anything that will make their job harder. Such as higher standards and more testing to learn if the goals are being met.

I must say that high school was too easy... (8th grade was harder)

*I want to see more thinking in school and that it's not only good results that matters... teachers could work more with what students is good at instead of improving everything bad...
all the time.

And YES, students deserve to be teached by the best-- who fully burn for what they are teaching in.

only then you learn something, and everything els is irrelevant.

:2 cents:

I have an Aunt who is a college counselor and gives a lot of speeches at high schools trying to encourage kids to become teachers. Its sad but she is quite the trooper.

She makes them watch Mr Holland's Opus.

Maybe because of the symbolisim in the Lord of the Flies?

Adults = Government

Kids = We the people

Right up there with the food pyramid.

In LA alone they cut education funding 450 million this year.

They also decided to let go of many teachers, and have replaced them with uncertified, student /teachers who do not get paid as much and are not as trained.

Want to know why?

because the "no child left behind" crap and all this bullshit they are shoving down the mouths of voters is a total crock.

teachers here are no longer allowed to make lesson plans, they must follow strict STATE formed new guidelines and lessons.

No longer can teachers teach. I have 2 college counselors and 2 teachers in family, 2 have moved on ones quote "why be a teacher when anyone can do it? They dont even allow us to make lessons anymore, we have to teach hat they tell us to teach and its propaganda crap that isnt even necessary."

my kids will be homeschooled, no way will i put them into the communist system known as public schools, nor will i make them prt of the propaganda system.

do you people not realize public school is a method used to teach your kids what they *want to teach them* - propaganda. And since none of them will remember Iraq, or Vietnam, or Saddam, it all looks good on paper.

Anyway, your world suffers in more ways than most of you notice.

its not just about gas, its about stripping teachers of both their funding an gifted talents. One is now becoming a punk rock hair dresser and makes what a teacher makes in a day in a few hours in Hollywood.

All this shit did not happen in the current admin. Was going way before, going on before Clinton.

Try the teacher's union.

LA is hurting and no one seems to care.

This state is having to close down schools, hospitals, clinics... and they keep cutting funding.

the budget was decreased 450 million in LA alone this pasy tear, and the students increased by over 18k per capita or however its marked.

id never think of putting a kid through this horrible system.

Every country should invest a GOOD part of the taxes in education. Education is the future. But they don't want the people educated, they want the people brainwashed.

I think that is everywhere. I even know kids who go to catholic schools and are so damn stupid! :mad:

I have no kids, and 40% of the taxes we pay on our house goes towards the schools here....:mad:

Yeaaaaaaaaahh -- good post! Sad state of affairs. I totally agree about homeschooling, underfunding, etc.

I went to school to be a teacher . . . but I get more respect and make more money as a webwhore.
