Yap.
But anyway that's not a very polite behavior.

I might be wrong.... but I am under the impression he calls designer work what a "programmer" did for him...

at least, that is what I am thinking...

I never expect a designer to redo work once all is paid and agreed to be done... that'd be using the good will of someone.

BUT, there's something different with programming. if you hire a programmer to build your entire site, and then maintain it, he should let you know how everything works by the time he leaves...

That's why everyone should always know how everything works WHILE someone does it for them... cuz then this shit don't happen.

Isnt this like buying a car then having to pay extra for the keys. What do I do.

sounds more like he sold you a car and drove you around for a little while.

and now that he's gone you want him to teach you how to drive.

hire another driver.

ah true, but same could be applied.

you pay someone to do a script.

they provide working script.

you come back 6 months later wanting changes, why cant he ask for his hourly rate?

I dont know the rates so 100 could be much, I dont know. but what one values their self or time should be of no issue to anyone who has been privded with the service and product then comes back later for changes.

theres still an issue of what someones time and talent is worth, whether its designs or code.

just my opinion though.

do you want him 2 do the work for *FREE* ?

I don't work for *FREE* and I'm sure you do not either.

Tell the person what you want done and ask how much they will charge.

why not ?:Graucho

once a final design is okayed, expect to get charged for any other work that needs to be done. if this guy was working for you in-house, would you not pay him on the day he'd have to update sites??

and it's a valid opinion... I agree with you 110% :)

But unless I heard wrong, all he is asking is the path of something... lol...

"hey, where did you upload my design again?"

"I know, but I'll tell you for 100$ an hour"

this is how I see it... if it's different and requires work from the other individual, then payment is to be given...

Yeah you wouldn't want all my honest clients coming out saying how good of a job I do

dig420 05-20-2004 08:26 PM

how the hell can the designer know how your site 'works' and you don't? What are you talking about not working? If you need something redesigned you hire a designer. If you need a script repaired, you hire a programmer.

I don't understand the basis for this thread.

You are correct, its a php programming and database issue.
