Chillin' in Thailand...How good is it?

Bout 20 years ago a pal of mine moved to Thailand. Screamed up and down how great it was there. He even owned a bar in Chengmai Province.

Nowadays some fellas live in Thailand but how good is it nowadays? They ever clean up the air?

What're rents and taxes like etc.?

Try to spend one week in Pattaya, it's in Thailand also. They got great foods (from the restaurants to the street foods), the beaches there are also awesome and the people are always so generous.

chiang mai is probably one of the worst places to run a bar in thailand... low volume, not such a well-heeled tourist crowd, extremely bad air, literally insane "loi krataw'n practices"... i've got a bar in Phuket, its much nicer down here on the beach..!

Shes just looking to take a peaceful beach vacation as far as I know. Shes looking forward to doing some backpacking etc.
Im assuming she'll be looking for some crazy parties also, but isnt an overly "sexual" person (ex girlfriend, dont ask).

tell her to stay away from Patong then... if she wants nice beaches either Rawai or Kata would be nice phuket destinations for her... some very good hiking around the rubber plantations in the nearby mountains of Kata as well..

Chiang Mai is quaint and definitely worth a stop (or go higher upland to see Mae'hon Son (old capital of Siam in the mountains), but she would be bored to tears there for an entire month..!

Phuket! I've heard of Phuket. Once was the setting to a martial arts comic I was asked to do.

I've got tens of thousands of Thai people in arts and martial arts businesses there but I need to hear from the foreigner's point of view.

I'm not into Thai women. Too short. Yet if it's a place to get away to and just concentrate on work for a year and not have to worry about a coup or some terrorist asshole then I might take my friends up on a visit.
