can anyone assist me on how to access SCANDISK from a XP machine? having problems with my HD now

Open My Computer, and then select the local disk you want to check.
On the File menu, click Properties.
On the Tools tab, under Error-checking, click Check Now.

no luck, i think you can only view that in lower Windows Machines but not on XP

already did that before but im getting the message below. so i restarted my PC but nothing happened:

Just go to my computer and double click, all your disks will be listed.
Then right click on thr disc drive and choose tools.

goto my computer
click on the hd u want to scan
right click goto properties
click on tools
click on error checking (same icon as scandisk) will do it for ya

did that already before, got this error:

are you sure you have Admin rights/priviledges on your PC under the user that you're logged in as?

I use 2 get the same error in windows 98

also just read something today saying safe mode then run it

actually when the computer is booting keep pressing F8 and wait till the menu pops up, there should be something to let u boot into safe mode and i even think there is something there that will runscandisk before it boots

I'm not running XP, so check out this link:

There seems to some other way to get into safe mode with XP, though F8 should work.
