![]() Grr. I have been using FoxCounter for YEARS and have dozens and dozens of sites and pages with their counter on there. Just now they changed the size of their counter graphic without so much as a courtesy email. Doubled the width of the little button, turning it into a small horizontal banner and destroying the layouts of all the pages I have it on. (By resizing table elements and div wrappers it was in.)
![]() Thank god I was in the process of phasing them out anyway because of all their recent database fuckups. But still, this is gonna force me to edit a ton of pages in a hurry. Fuckheads. ![]() Y'all know I don't get involved in spreading hate on these boards. But this is just a fucking stupid and unprofessional thing for Fox Counter to go and do. I say again, grrr. |

Definately a bad situation when a counter goes haywire or changes company hands.
What're you using now for a counter?

Relying more on server stats of course; like a lot of newbies I used freehosts when I first started out and so I needed a counter, but once I wised up and started hosting my own stuff, I kept the counters because they can still be handy.
Don't always use a counter now, but when I do, I use masterstats. Somebody on here recommended them a month or two back when Fox Counters were down for most of a week, and I've been gradually shifting over. They do most things better, although they don't let you track back your search engine traffic as easily. (I like clicking on a referring URL to track back to the search that generated the hit; Masterstats doesn't allow that because they "strip" all the parameters when they report search engine referrers.) |

Foxcounter has gone nothing but downhill fast in the last year. The latest of their shit didn't fuck up any of my pages, but they seem to come up with some dumb shit every month or so.
The best free counter I have found is www.masterstats.com. Very good stats, traffic back, and they don't fuck around.

Lou, I think it was you that recommend MasterStats to me -- thanks a lot.
They are good -- their latest button has me tearing my hear in frustrated admiration. It's clearly and obviously a counter button so I can't beef, but it still manages to be attractive and clickable. Fortunately, as you say, they send traffic back to make up for what leaks their way. |

I haven't used them since they stopped paying us and that time also without any e-mails to their users about it. After that I switched to porngraph and we all now how that ended... I don't think I will use any 3rd part counters anymore

I never understood why people on paid hosting used third party counters. (makes sense on free hosting as you mentioned) Seems like they are more trouble than they are worth.

Live and learn.. nothing is free, not even counters.
![]() Unless you are like a top 10 site and can get a little traffic back. |

Nothing's free, but I hate it when somebody offers a service in exchange for a tiny bit of screen real estate and traffic, and then tries to hijack twice as much screen real estate without so much as an advance warning.
It's the difference between business and theft. |

Tons of posts about counters and bullshit these days. Looks like it's time for someone to open up a reliable and trustworthy free counter program
