I hit my car in the garage

Weird shit, I was coming in and the garage doors where both open but as soon as I get in, the garage door closes down and hits my car's windshield and breaks it lightly. The owner wants me to pay for the damage to his garage door and I'm saying no he's the one who should pay for my car's windshield.

Am I wrong?

It's an appartment building, I have a spot in the garage to park in.
It's an automatic garage door that all of a sudden was closing down on my car when I was entering.

who's garage? were you just parking in someone else's garage just for the hell of it? Is at a house you're renting? Were you getting the car repaired at a mechanic's "garage" ?

we need a bit more info

I just opened a new policy for a car I just bought. Cost me $3 for 6 months worth of glass protection. Maybe you already have it...give your insurance agent a call.

Depends on why it fell. If it fell for no reason, he should pay. If you hit the button like a moron, you should pay.

It does have the protection and yet it hit my windshield and then re-opened up.

Sounds like it's your landlord's problem.

Doesn't sound like the door was operating properly. Shouldn't be your fault at all.

Sounds like the owner should be paying unless you got an itchy trigger finger. He should also have that shit inspected as well.

If its an Apartment complex then it is the Apartments issue. Notify them. Unless they have somewhere in the rental agreement that tenant assumes all responsiblity for whatever happens with the property.. they should pay

Tell the landlord he got off lucky, Roger.

If that door hit your hahahahahaha with enough force to crack it, it probably could have hurt an adult, or seriously hurt a child.

You did him a favor!

Good point. Be sure to bring this up when discussing this with him. Bring him back down to earth. The door should have never come down if you were in between the door jams. Its the landlords fault and he/she is very lucky no one got hurt.

If the sensors are located on each side of the garge door track at the bottom you cant hesitate to enter the garage. One side sensor sends an infared beam to the other side of the track that is just a reflector to send the beam back. Your tires break the beam keeping the door open. But once your tires past the beam the circuit is complete again and the countdown delay starts. If you stop for some reason that countown still goes because there is nothing breaking the beam. Sounds like the delay needs to be adjusted or you need to stop looking at chicks when you enter the garage Either way sorry to hear that.

Isn't it "code" for safety reasons that once a garage door hits something or the infa-red beam is broken it should go back up and stay up automatically?
