Who wants to donate money to Nick Berg's family?

Watching the video of Nick Bergs beheading was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen. It has touched me in a way that I cannot express in words.

After seeing the pictures of his family breaking down in tears from the news, I told myself I would help his family in any way I could.

I personally am going to make a generous contribution to the Berg family. I know money is the least of their worries right now, but anything I can do to make them know that people care will help.

So I'm wondering, does anyone else want to contribute to them? If so, post here how much you're willing to offer, or email me: sohrabm at comcast dot net.

I will later set something up through a bank to accept the funds and route them directly to the Berg family...

Any amount helps!

If the family sets up a fund, I think it's a good idea to help. Not sure about just putting money into an account somewhere without knowing what the family wants.

Can you contact the press in their town and find out if there is a fund being set up?

Why a fund for him? Why not for someone else who has been killed in iraq? They don't deserve it because they weren't killed on tv?

How about you give some money to the Iraqi children orphaned by the American government?

I think Berg's family can look after themselves financially, don't you?

Very generous of you, I wish I could help. I am all tied up with funds, but I'll see what I can do

Hmm, don't think money is the answer. You can't start paying people because they lost some one then we could pay every one in this freaking world. And why should we pay. Nobody is going to pay when i lost some or some one was murderd. This must be American, but i just don't get.

Noble jester Rhino, but I would focus on the drive to get people to vote this administration out of office like Rick at CJ is doing.

West Chester is an affluent area in the wealthy Philly suburbs. I doubt this family needs money.

The thought behind this idea is genuinely great. However, I tend to agree that his family is likely taken care of fiscally. Now if GFY were to set up a fund that could funnel money into a reputable charity that would directly benefit the Iraqii children and families affected by this unfortunate, yet necessary war, that would be extremely cool. Just so long as said charity wasn't a front for some fucking extremist/terrorist group - get the money to the people that truly need it, maybe through the RedCross or something to aid their efforts.

War sucks, there is always "collateral damage" - that's spelled innocent civilians - and anything we as a globally present community can do to help repair any damage we can would be awesome. By awesome, I mean that it would be nice for a change for this community to put aside any political differences we may have about the situation and actively try and help repair the unavoidable damage a conflict like this causes.

Our various leaders may never agree on whether the sky is blue or orange, but maybe we as a global people can agree on a humanitarian issue and act in their absence.

Gotta agree with this - thousands of people have died.... his death is no different to anyone elses...

Sad but true

In slight contradiction to my previous post, why not set up a fund that would benefit the families of the coalition veterans that have fallen, whether they be dead or maimed? Pat Tillman was an icon of courage and devotion to duty, but he shouldn't be the only one that is recognized for gallant effort - and he wouldn't want to be either if he were still with us.

Sure, there are disability and death benefits that are paid out of tax dollars, but so the fuck what?! Those benefits are puny in comparison to the losses of human life.

I'm not for this war, nor am I against it. I'm 150% behind the troops that are fighting it though. They are putting themselves in harm's way 24/7 for people that frankly don't give a fuck apparently. That's a noble and extremely brave thing to do. To walk into a situation when you KNOW that those you are fighting for could give less than 2 shits whether you succeed or fail, whether you live or die for them - much less whether or not your own countrymen support you. That's a hard thing to swollow.

During the "first gulf war" I was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and every day I watched 100's of vehicles and 1000's of troops ship out for the gulf each day. Many of my dearest friends were among those troops. I wanted to be with them, to stand beside them, but orders are orders and you can't just hobo your way onto a ship headed 7,000 miles away. When they came back and I greeted them at the airport I saw how the experience had truly changed them, how it had both hardened them and affected them mentally. I can only loosely imagine the horrors they experienced.

These brave men and women, these great souls deserve much more respect, recognition and support than they've been given in the media and on the boards.

We're spending $130 billion in tax money (that's just the USA) so far to win this and "free Iraq", how about we - the international microcosm we are - spend a little bit of our own pre-taxed money, and our heartfelt support, to help the veterans and families of those fallen or wounded (I'm really bad with managing money or organizing something like this, so NO don't ask me to organize this please!! ). Surely this community could raise more money for this effort than they did for a camgirl "needing" bigger tits.
