Really? I wonder what you base that on? the Image of america? mickey mouse and cheeseburgers wtf are you talking about:

BIN LADIN: We declared jihad against the US government, because the US government is unjust, criminal and tyrannical. It has committed acts that are extremely unjust, hideous and criminal whether directly or through its support of the Israeli occupation of the Prophet's Night Travel Land (Palestine). And we believe the US is directly responsible for those who were killed in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. The mention of the US reminds us before everything else of those innocent children who were dismembered, their heads and arms cut off in the recent explosion that took place in Qana (in Lebanon). This US government abandoned even humanitarian feelings by these hideous crimes. It transgressed all bounds and behaved in a way not witnessed before by any power or any imperialist power in the world. They should have been considerate that the qibla (Mecca) of the Muslims upheaves the emotion of the entire Muslim World. Due to its subordination to the Jews the arrogance and haughtiness of the US regime has reached, to the extent that they occupied the qibla of the Muslims (Arabia) who are more than a billion in the world today. For this and other acts of aggression and injustice, we have declared jihad against the US, because in our religion it is our duty to make jihad so that God's word is the one exalted to the heights and so that we drive the Americans away from all Muslim countries. As for what you asked whether jihad is directed against US soldiers, the civilians in the land of the Two Holy Places (Saudi Arabia, Mecca and Medina) or against the civilians in America, we have focused our declaration on striking at the soldiers in the country of The Two Holy Places. The country of the Two Holy Places has in our religion a peculiarity of its own over the other Muslim countries. In our religion, it is not permissible for any non-Muslim to stay in our country. Therefore, even though American civilians are not targeted in our plan, they must leave. We do not guarantee their safety, because we are in a society of more than a billion Muslims. A reaction might take place as a result of US government's hitting Muslim civilians and executing more than 600 thousand Muslim children in Iraq by preventing food and medicine from reaching them. So, the US is responsible for any reaction, because it extended its war against troops to civilians. This is what we say. As for what you asked regarding the American people, they are not exonerated from responsibility, because they chose this government and voted for it despite their knowledge of its crimes in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq and in other places and its support of its agent regimes who filled our prisons with our best children and scholars. We ask that may God release them.

As I've said before I'll pass on the video because I probably won't be able to take it.

No, I did not say Iraq started the whole thing. What I did say, or what I mean to say, was that Bush has reacted in the worst possible way and that now some major repairs need to be done to the world's perception of America in order to keep the terrorist attacks down to a dull roar.

Ah yes, the "worst" possible way, we all saw how Al-Quada stopped their campaign of terror when President Clinton hit their terrorist camps with cruise missles, perhaps you have a better solutioin than force to keep from being the victim to any two-bit terrorist with a grudge against america and a stick of dynamite?

I think we disagree on the definition of "image" in this context.

I think of course different people can view things differently and in how they react to them like the horrors of the world seen and unseen. Like on rotten.com. And for people who want to see that stuff then fine go ahead. It's a free country! To me though, as human beings, what elevates us above the animals is that we don't operate on instinct alone. We can say ok today I will not kill. It does not however seperate us from the animals because people are still basically animals. And being such there are things that appeal to people's baser instincts that they must see or watch like beheading videos. And snuff films. And porn and erotica and tv shows like Friends. This all from the same people capable of creating amazing works of art and music etc. To me though, as someone knowing they are not seperated from but elevated above the animals, I don't need to see a beheading video to know or understand the horror there or the horrors perpetuated all over the world now as we speak. I feel that when or if I see something like that I am stained by that blood forever. (I watched a snuff film once and said ok I dont need to see that shit again.)

Some people say Karma is memory. That once you do something you can never forget it and are stuck with it. So if you can live with the memory and stain of something like that then fine, go ahead and look at it and all the other crap out there. There is plenty out there to see that is not horrifying that reflects the better part of human nature but that doesnt always sell tickets. Look at that Christ movie. Would people have gone to see it enmasse if it wasnt a freaking bloodbath?! If it was about all the positive things Christ supposedly preached and stands for?! Not likely. Quite frankly rather than have this long drawn out thing going on in Iraq and the middle east, I'd like to see them put an end to it all with a few BOMBS. Yea just Nuke Em all and be done with it. Collateral damage is a necessary part of any war right?! But then again I think well maybe not.

Ok go ahead and rip me a new one!

Thanks for the heads up. I usually steer clear of stuff like that, but sometimes curiousity gets the best of me...thinking "How bad could it really be?".

I can only hope Bush will bring the troops home soon.

I've watched it a few times now, and since I edit a lot of video... theres to much confusion and choas for a split second and theres a transition in there. that plus theres not the correct body language for such an act. Upseting yes. but was it a staged mockup to provoke? hard to tell. maybe I'm trying to make myself beileve its not accurate to feel better... but Im running it through my editing program to see if I cna find any irregularities.

you forget my first real job was the DOD special ops.... before I came here.

the hahahahahaha I made some time ago about flight 509, only one of you saw that it was real. Mr KRL gets that credit if I remember right.

I have some work to do.
kinda makes adult seem like kiddie stuff doesnt it in the frame of the world. Shame we are still such oooooooooh bad people according to B_USH

Just to comment on Bushs' being in office, we couldn;t vote him out if we wanted to, we didn't even vote him in. This is a fictional democracy. Isn't the last election the first election in US history that it went past the electorial college and to the actual people, and yet there was a "miscount?" Pick the puppet, is more like it, for the buisness' behind them, lol.

Another thing that occured to me is that the *perception* of the video and of the actions is often cultural. First of all until the early 1900s even in this country, not much value was placed on human life. In other countries, specifically third world countries, that is still the case. I know someone who was an aid worker in Liberia. When she came back she said that the current dictator had tortured and killed his predecessor in public. It was filmed and the video released to the public. Apparently it's on the shelves in stores everywhere there and people watch it all the time. And not just in Liberia but other countries in Africa and Asia.

I feel for his family.. how heartwrenching to have your sons death displayed to the whole world for propoganda.
I have not seen the tape, but Alex has. I too feel for his family because their son's death was made for the world to see.

If you feel you must see the video.....don't just out of respect for the the family. It might be hard to imagine, but for 2 seconds put yourself in the Nick's parents shoes. Think about how they feel not ever wanting to see this act of cruelity, but knowing it well always be out there for anyone to see FOREVER!!!!

Don't give in for the family and although this is GFY....let's take our tasteless posts on another thread.

1986: Leon Klinghoffer killed aboard Achille Lauro
1986: La Belle Discotheque bombing
1988: Pan-Am 103 Bombing
1998: bombing of embassies in Africa

It would continue even with a tree hugger in office.
Heh, not ALL Canadians are against the war!!!
You'll find a large number of people against it in Quebec (not sure why???? the 'french' influence maybe???)
but in the other provinces, there's not as much anti-american sentiment...

I just think Bush should hit harder... Get it over and done with, without dragging it out.. pour in TONS of troops...
