If the spam email has an "unsubscribe"

do you?

Or do you figure that it validates your address, become more valuable, and sold to all the more spammers?

I use unique emails for everything, so I just block an email that starts to get spam heavy.

Yes please never unsubscribe, you'll just get more spam. Sounds like something a spammer would spread just so people wont unsubscribe

Totally incorrect and misleading.. Why would we want to waste our time/resources spamming someone who is not interested in the product in question.. Sure you may say "yea they opted out just for that product" but most of the time its because they dont want any spam period...

You can ask why all day long... but I did an expierment on this very subject after the first of the year (after CAN-SPAM went into action) and not only do people sell your names to other people, but they will continue to spam them themselves -- relentlessly- and these are US companies.

People just don't give a fuck I guess.

It would also be wise to turn off images / HTML in emails if you don't want to let people know you saw their email.

most of the time if you opened the email you're allready fucked Most mailers track EVERYTHING from opening the emails, to clicktracking, to sales/county to... everything! So if you opened the mail you just opted yourself in to 100+ mailing lists

I had to close one of my email addresses becaused I used to believe I was doing the right thing by unsubscribing. It got to the point that everytime I logged on my account was full from all the spam. Sometimes it's legit, but many times I believe they use that "unsubscribe" tactic to verify that your email address is valid.

You'll get even more spam, trust me or try it out yourself, they ain't scared of lawsuits they just want verified adresses.
That's why the "opt-in" list sellers are abel to sell verfied adresses.
