I'd like to share something with you...

Even if you don't care. This happened Wednesday in Karbala Iraq. Not sure if anyone heard about it. This is something I wrote personally.

On Wednesday May 5th 2004, a life was lost and a soldier was gone.
His name was Jesse Ryan Buryj and he was only 21 years old.
He started his stint in the service in September of 2003 and had just gotten married
in October to his high school sweetheart Amber.
Jesse lived a good life with great parents and lots of friends that just adored him.
He touched so many peoples lives and was a wonderful person to have in your life.
Jesse's one ambition was to become a Canton City Police officer after he got out of the army but that all changed in the matter of seconds. A military police officer and a newly wed lost his life in combat.
He was guarding a check point in Karbala, Iraq on Wednesday when an Iraqi soldier driving a dump truck ambushed the check point. Jesse and 4 other soldiers were in a humvee and Jesse saw the dump truck coming.
Armed with an M-4 he started shooting. He shot and killed the driver of the dump truck and continued to empty the rest of the 400 rounds of the M-4 until he was thrown from his vehicle.
Jesse hit the ground in pain. It seemed that the outside of Jesse's body was unharmed but he had internal injuries. He was then flown to a hospital in Baghdad where they tried to operate. Jesse died on the operating table. He was gone.
Jesse didn't die unhappy though. Even though Jesse died, he saved the lives of 3 other people. One of them was expecting a baby and one had a little girl at home.
Jesse spent his whole life helping other people and wanted to do that the rest of his life by becoming a local police officer. I know this better than anyone because until I was 14 years old, Jesse was my best friend. We spent everyday together goofing off and trying not to get in trouble doing so.
I have not seen Jesse in 7 years and didn't know that he had gotten married or even left for the Army. We lost contact over a disagreement.
The reason that I am writing this is to make a point.
If someone is your honest to god best friend and you know that they love you, your best interest is what is important to them. So take a minute to think about that before you argue with them. Because if you lose touch with that and you lose touch with reality, you might lose your chance to tell that person that you are sorry and that you love them.
Love your friends and let them know that everyday. Make it a point to at least talk to them once a day, because someday you might not ever get the chance again.

I'm sorry Jesse and I will miss you.

Sincerely,
Amanda Lynn Marchand

P.S. Pray for our troops and their safe return home.

I don't forget about them. They are over there for us. And it's extremely dangerous. I think about everyone over there.

I'm sorry for your loss. It really hurts to lose someone you care about so much.

For what it's worth, I do believe in some sort of afterlife, and Jesse probably knows you care and that you're sorry for your arguement. I'm sure he's forgiven whatever happened between the two of you.

*hug*

My best friend in high school always talked about becoming a Navy pilot. We even were in the same aviation course in school, but I never thought he would actually go into the military cause he was the type of guy that I didn't think would be able to deal well with the sructured life of the military.

He was one of those wild ass high school drivers, kind that would zoom through a solid red light just to risk the thrill of a close call, and I always joked with him that dude if you fly F18's one day you'll end up killing yourself.

Lost contact with him and found out later he did join the Air Force and during one of his training missions he started to push the jet he was flying in to some "over the edge" maneuvers trying to be like a Top Gun flyer right away. He stalled out his jet and hit unsustainable G-forces and passed out and the jet went straight into the ground and he was killed.

It was quite a shock when I got the news and my preminition had come true.

This is the thing people forget when they only see a number of casualties. These casualities have namaes, faces and histories. They have family, friends and loved ones. It's all the more tragic when they lose their life over some bullshit political stance.

I've taken my share of knocks for being a "dove" but this is what people forget. For every Rambo wannabe, there is a kid just trying to get out of his current situation and better himself...maybe get an education, see the world and have some adventures.

No that's not insensitive at all. In fact I agree with your point that they don't call it war for no reason. The reason that I wrote this little entry is to make the point that anyone can die at any given time and you better get your "i'm sorrys" in before it's too late. And to pray for the soldiers that are out there. I also agree that if anyone had a rebuttal to my post that it was his choice. He went because he wanted to. But that doesn't make it any easier.

That is a good point that you made though and I do agree.
