Moore admits Disney 'ban' was a stunt
By Andrew Gumbel in Los Angeles
07 May 2004

Less than 24 hours after accusing the Walt Disney Company of pulling the plug on his latest docu.mentary in a blatant attempt at political censorship, the rabble-rousing film-maker Michael Moore has admitted he knew a year ago that Disney had no intention of distributing it.

The admission, during an interview with CNN, undermined Moore's claim that Disney was trying to sabotage the US release of Fahrenheit 911 just days before its world premiere at the Cannes film festival.

Instead, it lent credence to a growing suspicion that Moore was manufacturing a controversy to help publicise the film, a full-bore attack on the Bush administration and its handling of national security since the attacks of 11 September 2001.

You're a fucking moron. Michael Moore has NO relevance to this year's election. Do you honestly think that simply because he's a liberal, he's somehow associated with our next President (John Kerry, if I could have my choice)??

So, I guess the Unabomber, as a liberal, should somehow be thrown into the mix with a line as ignorant as yours:

The Unabomber, or George Bush ??

It doesn't compute, asshat!

"George Bush or John Kerry?" makes sense.

"Liar Michael Moore or George Bush" makes no sense. There is no relation whatsoever between the two.

Publicity "stunt" = get publicity for your project. So...?

Besides, Miramax backed the project anyway because they thought Disney would change its mind. So the news appears to be that Disney won't do it despite Miramax thinking it would.

You are right. His article proves nothing.

Michael Moore's actions, on the other hand, prove quite a bit. He's still manufacturing data to promote HIMSELF. He really has no other agenda.

You sound almost as ignorant as Rush Limbaugh's supporters.

Think for yourself, man.

And if you must know, I am NOT a Bush supporter (at least not the Yale educated kind... I particularly like the unshaven Bush I see around here from time to time). My vote will be for John Kerry this year (although I wish Wesley Clark was the nominee).

Do you read the first three lines and pass stupid judgements?

This is the end.......

The only thing that's new here is in Disney's reaffirmation of their previously stated position," one well-placed source said on condition of anonymity. "Miramax never said it was distributing the film, even if people assumed it would find a way." The source also denied that Fahrenheit 911 was causing any significant personal friction between Mr Eisner and Mr Weinstein, pointing out that they could hardly be getting along worse as it is. "There's plenty of other issues to have catfights over," he said.

Mr Moore was not immediately available to answer the charge that he was creating controversy for promotional purposes. He is still at work finalising the print he will take to Cannes.

Maybe you missed this part:

"The admission, during an interview with CNN..."

Moore doesn't need to be around "answer any charges" if he's already made "an admission".

Here's another news story about it:

http://www.antimusic.com/news/04/may/item20.shtml

antiTainment NEWS: Michael Moore Lied About Disney Ban

05-06-04 Keavin
.
Michael Moore made a big stink earlier this week when he accused Disney of pulling the plug on his latest film, ?Fahrenheit 911?. He decried Disney?s decision not to distribute the film as politically motivate censorship. However, Moore was crying wolf. He admitted in a CNN interview that he knew a year ago that Disney would not distribute the film, according to a report from independent.co.uk.
Moore told CNN, "Almost a year ago, after we'd started making the film, the chairman of Disney, Michael Eisner, told my agent he was upset Miramax had made the film and he will not distribute it."

The lightning rod film producer claims that he had a contract with Disney for distribution, but according to independent.co.uk, a source close to Miramax (the subsidiary involved in the film) said that the deal was for financing, not for distribution.

Moore?s admission prompts the question, why all the outrage now? Easy answer? Publicity baby! The film is set to premier at the Cannes Film Festival later this month. The politically charged film can easily generate controversy and press on it?s own. It is reportedly an attack film against the Bush administration that questions the President?s handling of the War on Terror and the events surrounding the 9/11 attacks. According to some news outlets, the film even attempts to link the Bush family with the family of Osama Bin Laden, in pure Michael Moore style.

This publicity stunt may backfire. If Moore will take a year old event and use it to drum up publicity, it might lead to questions regarding the credibility of some of the issues covered in his film and the spin Moore puts on them.

The quote in the article does not match the headline!

Michael Moore says he was assured by Miramax that the movie would be distributed - that the problems would be worked out by now.

The headline is right wing propaganda. Read the article!

This is another propaganda piece that does nothing but quote the other headline, which lies about what Michael Moore said.

This is a pathetic smear attempt on Moore by the right wing.

Nothing new - the right wingers have been losing battles to Michael Moore for many years.

So? Should he have started ranting a year ago instead? At least he's not lying outright, which is the conservative way of doing things.

The conservative problem with Michael Moore is that he's not afraid of them, he reaches a wide audience and he makes them look very, very bad. Which they are. I think I'm gonna make a donation to the ACLU in this threads honor.

I don't support Mike Moore. Personally, I think he is an idiot. Remember, this is the guy who thinks the guns are responsible for Columbine. Those fucking guns, they loaded themselves and jumped right into Eric Harris' hands, cocked themselves and began firing wildly. We all know thats not the case wether we want to admit it or not. We know that gunes DO NOT fire unless someone helps them do so.

To prove my point, here is a little test you can do in your very own home. Get a gun and a bullet. Lay the gun and the bullet on the kitchen table. Then, without touching the gun, command it to load itself and shoot you in the fucking head. This is a very safe experiment as it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to be shot.

However, I also do not agree with the chickenshit tactics of corporate media either. Moore has a right to say whatever he wants.

Corporate media has an obligation and a duty to report the news in an unbiased manner and give equal coverage to all viewpoints. If they refuse to do this, they should be forced to have a disclaimer stating that the program you are about to see is biased, based on selected information and does not represent the full truth.

Yes, I am very much aware that Disney has the right to choose what movies it releases and so on. I am just saying they should not be allowed to misrepresent to the people of this country that they are unbiased when they are anything but.

I like "REAL" people. Michael Moore is just as big a liar as GWB.

what's hilarious is all the conservatives who watched Moore's Columbine film and are too thick to understand it.

He didn't blame guns. He went out of his way to show that Canadians have as many guns as we do and don't have nearly the murder/suicide rate. He blamed our high level of gun violence on media sensationalism of violent crime. His point re Charlton Heston et al was their really, really bad taste in coming to Columbine to lecture and their ridiculous position of allowing absolutely anyone to buy assault weaponry, no questions asked.

No, he's not. And the Democrats aren't 'just as bad as the Republicans' either. There are very real differences between the parties, and there are VERY real differences between Bush and Moore. To think there's not just shows a lack of research.

The headline is right wing propaganda. Read the article!
shhhh! DonnovanPhillips thinks that if it was written on a "serious" website... it HAD to be true... lol

He doesnt quite know yet the difference between a serious rigorous journalist... and a punk writting for a website or newspaper giving his opinions/interpretation on something he heard on CNN.... lol

If the title of an article reads.. "Moore admits Disney 'ban' was a stunt" then it means .. it is now official and confirmed!!

Anyone that watched "Columbine" can see exactly who Michael Moore is...

** I ** purchased the DVD and was EXCITED to be able to watch it that night. Then I stuck it in and pressed "play". I have NEVER been more disappointed in a supposed "doc.umentary". Michael Moore's lies were blatant.

It's okay to disagree with the right wing. I have SERIOUS problems with them. But I also THINK ON MY OWN and it's quite clear that Michael Moore is a self-promoting liar.

'Nuff said.
