LOL!

Well, we got out first computer when I was about 5 or 6. Sometime around '81 or '82, I think. It was an Atari.

But they bought me my own computer for Christmas when I was 9. A Commodore 64. Boy, that thing raised me for about 6 years of my life! LOL

It was for fun :P

Nobody bought me a computer ever. I built my own with money I'd earned. I was on computers many years and years before that happened though.

Interesting question here: How many of the GFYers remember 300 baud accustic modems and dumb terminals with thermal paper output instead of a monitor? How many remember punch cards or even know what that means? I'm betting 0.15%, but that's just a gentleman's bet.

Of course. I was able to do all of my schoolwork, research things that I hadn't yet learned....

I don't think they knew I'd be using the computer to build my own personal porn empire.

I used to go into my father's office when i was young and he'd be using punch cards to run his programs..

My current boss relates stories of punch cards to me often also.. getting all the cards in the right order took a while... and sometimes someone would switch one out of place and the whole thing would be fucked up.. they only had once chance per day to run a program because of the demand from other departments to use the 'computer'.

At home we had a pre 286 computer that i was allowed to use to play crappy old games on - space invaders, zork, alley cat, lode runner etc) and before that he had a sinclair/tandy type clone with no drive input that plugged into the tv that you could program yourself eg; 10 print "hello world" 20 goto 10 etc. i used to program sounds into it and type out code for simple games from books.

I bought my first computer - 586 second hand and modified it over time.

funny video.. brings back memories.

I had every computer out throughout my younger years. My cousin bought a proper PC in 1997 and got the internet and of course I had to have it, so mum bought me my computer and got me the internet. Its kinda went on from there. I think I was 14 or 15 when I got my first pc and internet

Wow, shows how old I am - by the time PC's came out, I was no longer young enough to have my parents buy me stuff.

My Dad worked for IBM and got one the first PC Juniors - before they were released to the public. I remember going to house to use it. My ex-husband had one of the Atari's, but I never used it.

The first PC I bought was an 8088 - sometime around 1985ish.

My first computer was from Radio Shack - It was a huge keyboard that you plugged into your TV. It had a cassette recorder to store data on. Fun times. Didn't do much.

I got into computers when I was in high school. We had those computers that were a monitor and keyboard all in one - A Tandy I think it was. I remember writing a program where I stored phone numbers and addresses, where I could hahahahaha one letter, pick and choose which parts to include in the letter, and print up dozens of different letters to differnt people.
