Why most partnerships fail?

I mean lets face it almost everyone who takes in a business partner or starts talking with one to start something almost always fails.

Now I know dickheads tell me stories how your dad has the same partner for 12 years in some pizza store, but im not talking about your dad we all know on GFY that your family is all sucess stories.

So why is it that most fail?

Lets hear some gooid points

Greed. At the beginning, it's not that big of a deal, but once a lot of money starts flowing in, it tears two people apart.

For the same reason most relationships fail.

Look back at how many romantic relationships you have and how many failed before you found the "right" one. Now put that in terms of business partnerships. Personal dynamics are still the same - people needing to get along. If anything, the business side is even more apt to be doomed as you're adding money into the mix.

Simple examplation: Disagreements.

More detailed: Some people have great thoughts and the cash/energy to back it. But just because you have a thought doesn't mean you can always develop and/or manage the project to get it done. I think more people need to step back and know their own limits. Just because you have a great thought doesn't mean you can always get it done....put your ego aside and get soemone that can do it right without you interferring too much.

True also add that one person will always work harder and put in more effort than the other.... and thus this will lead to problems...

Partnerships are one of the hardest things in the world to make work. They take a lot of patience and understanding with the other person and a lot of communication.

Most times they fail because the communication is not there or the partners are going in 2 different directions.

I just dissolved a partnership recently and I think my ex-partner and I are better friends now then ever. Plus we both got what we wanted and will most likely work with each other again in the future.

usually it ends up where one partner does all the work but the other partner is there come pay day for his 50%. I had to re negotiate with my parter because I was covering almost 6k a month out of pocket to get it rolling. He was cool about it and we worked out a good deal. So far it's been pretty give and take. You just have to work at it like any other relationship. As long as you share the same goals that helps.
Cheers

I think some of it is unenlightened self-interest. I think some people are all me me me me and they are too stupid to realize that by sharing the benefits of an endeavor, they can make that endeavor bigger. So I guess I would say that stupidity is the #1 reason partnerships fail because, if people had a long view, they would realize that even their petty greed would be better served by doing the right thing by their partners.

Ppl get used to each other and after a while they loose the interest and may find someone other more attractive and interesting and so it fail --

I think it is a too complex topic to discuss here since there are thousands reasons why partnership fails ..

I guess the topic of all failures is that the both partners wasnt made for each other and so it failed ..

DH I think what you did is both commendable and a reason why a lot of partnerships work out for both parties.SOmetimes people will stay in the 'relationship' becuase the money is good and neither one has the cahones to say for friendship and buisnesswise sake that this isnt working out.True Friendships arent worth losing over buisness

I agree that greed is an important word when it comes to business relationships failing. I think two other good ones are vision and control.

Two people might have very different ideas about where they see the company heading. And when that happens, the control issue comes up. Hell, the control issue could come up even when both people are happy with the direction of the business.

too unaware of their own weaknesses which can lead to one of both partners getting in over their heads

too many similar weaknesses. if you both have the same weaknesses, you tend to bring that weakness to the surface even more and instead of each covering the others' weakness, you end up with bigger weakness and less of a cohesive unit.

I think most 'partners' in this business are imaginary.

Notice whenever someone responds to a thread where someone is selling a product, that potential buyer almost always says, "Let me check with my partner and get back to you."

Why don't they just say they don't have the money at the time?
