They'll have to put quite a bit of work into making Tom look younger. How old is he anyways?

biglou 05-03-2004 07:58 PM

On the one hand, WB almost cast Nick Cage as Superman, and that is just as ludicrous as your asinine Tom Hanks story; On the other hand, this is GFY and your story IS completely asinine...

Sorry, it is just a figment of your imagination. If I were a loadie, I would ask you to share the shit you've been smokin'...

tazz 05-03-2004 08:04 PM

The latest pick that I can find is Henry Cavill for the lead role. Here is the link . But that was last month and the picks for superman have changed so much, who knows?

zzgundamnzz 05-03-2004 08:05 PM

Tom Hanks? He needs alot of muscle then... movie is going to take a while to make :(

boneprone 05-03-2004 08:07 PM

You need to realize....

This movie is called Superman, not Superboy...

There have been too many superboy kind of shows and shit..

This is called Superman 5.. Not Superman -5. or age 5.

Superman was already established as a Mid aged MAN in superman 1,2,3 and 4..

This is Superman 5. Its supposed to be an older Superman dealing with inner issues as well as traditional Superman obstacles..

Its not supposed to be an elder superman, but a more mature older superman...

Thats why they casted hanks..

They didnt want the Superman 5 superman to all of a sudden become a boy, when in the movies before Superman was a middle aged MAN...

This is supposed to carry on where we left off to current day..

boneprone 05-03-2004 08:09 PM

The only thing that is strange is that Lois Lane is played by that gal from Lost in Translation...

Hanks as Superman didnt seem strange to me.. But her as Lois did.

PissFunny 05-03-2004 08:14 PM

I hope superman rocks... an is not a drawn out heap of shit where Tom Hanks talks to a ball for the entire movie.

ItBurnsWhenIpee 05-03-2004 09:01 PM

boneprone where are you getting this info? I'm looking at sites like Aint it Cool and Dark Horizons and seeing no news about Superman today. You used the word official, but there's no announcement I can find.

Bigjohn 05-03-2004 09:06 PM

Hanks as superman sounded odd to me at first but as I think about the different movies and the range of roles he's played I think he'll fit that big red S very well.

NoCarrier 05-03-2004 09:06 PM

boneprone is right, it will be Tom Hanks.

I didn't believe him a couple of months ago but it will be him. I read a couple of articles.

Stop bitching about Tom Hanks..

Swayze may get the Lois Lane role..

We were discussing it a year ago..

Welcome to last year..

I highly doubt it will be Hanks or any other "name" starring *AS* Superman.

As with ?Batman: The Beginning? they want a relative "unknown" and young actor. They do not want to continue the story line from the other movies, but to create a totally new one.

As has been said for a few years they want to do a Batman and a Superman movie so after both have been released they will have Bale and whoever is the new Superman make the ultimate super hero movie.

The last ?Batman? almost killed all the superhero movies due to the idea of using ?names? to make $ instead of a great story and losing so much $ and fan support it stopped production on most of the super hero movies at the time.

The only good thing to come out of that was it made Tim Burton drop out of Superman and that took the idea of Cage as the man of Steel with it.

X-men proved that you do not need ?names? to be an awesome movie, but a great story that made sense and a director who is a FAN of the characters and not somebody who never read a comic in his life.

I agree with everything you said except Brian Singer was not a fan of the X-Men characters, and actually hadn't read the comic. He sure made awesome flicks out of it though

Torn Rose 05-03-2004 09:35 PM

Um... didnt he say in the DVD release he grew up on them and was a wolverine fan?

:helpme

malakajoe 05-03-2004 09:36 PM

I call bullshit on Tom Hanks.

You sure you don't have him and Colin Hanks mixed up? Colin Hanks will play Jimmy Olsen.

AMADude 05-03-2004 10:01 PM

Tom Hanks!?
Isnt he a bit old for that.
:glugglug

Jamdin 05-03-2004 10:09 PM

Christian Bale will protray Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins. For some cool info about it, check out Batman On Film

The Truth Hurts 05-03-2004 10:18 PM

The Rock would make a sweet Superman.... maybe a little too muscular though?

I agree, they couldn't have found a better Wolverine... or some of the other characters.

As with Smallville on televsion, I don't think they could do any better than their choice for the young Superman.

Sometimes you just have to go with who's best... not who's got the most well known name.

Guess you've never seen Christoper Reeves as Superman before

Awhile back I read that Johnny Depp was going to be Lex Luthor...don't know if that still happening though

reynold 05-03-2004 11:14 PM

It'll be interesting to see Tom Hanks as Superman. i wonder if he'll even be half as good as Christopher Reeves.

Kard63 05-03-2004 11:18 PM

Fuckin Lame man. 3 years ago Tim burton was going to direct it, that would be pimp, then a year and a half ago Nick Cage was going to be Superman, retarded. And now Forrest Gump is going to be Superman? Every superhero movie has sucked balls in the last 20 years except the 2 X-men movies and the first 2 batman movies.

This shit is lamer than spiderman.

Of the rumors I'd heard.. for a while Superman was going to be Nicholas Cage.. then Ashton Kutcher (dude, where's my cape), Brendan Fraser, Jude Law..I'd heard something about Henry Cavill as Superman. Never heard a thing about Hanks tho.

JDog 05-03-2004 11:24 PM

I think tom hanks is a good actor, but I don't think he'll really fit the part of super man! But hell, it shows it's not a low-budget film!

Tom Hanks will be staring as Superman, and taht girl form Lost in Translation will be Lois Lane.

Should be great!

No way!!! Tom Hanks!! Dang! They couldn't pick someone better than that? That's like putting Jean Claude Van Damme to play Mary Poppins.

Burton's doing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory..

(with a touch of evil ) hehehe

newsdude 05-04-2004 12:41 AM

Tom Hanks is definitely a good actor. But then, how will he fit the image of Superman?

Gman.357 05-04-2004 01:18 AM

Hanks would probably do fantastic at the Clark Kent parts. But his FACE just isn't right for it. He doesn't have the macho, square-cut facial features that helped Reeves fit the character so perfectly. He actually looked like the comic book Superman.

Unless they give hanks a prosthetic jaw, it's just not going to convince me.

Yes.. Tom Hanks is playing the role of Superman.

News Flash: Gullible is NOT listed in the dictionary!

yeah..boner is pulling a good fast one here.
Supposedly it's down to between Brendan Faser and the dude
Matthew Bomer from the series "Tru Calling".

boneprone 05-04-2004 01:30 AM

Im not fucking kidding guys...

As Lensman .. He was with me last week at the Movie Insider Convention and it was the biggest talk at the show..

Just wait you sheep when you see it on Entertainment Tonight.

Then you'll see I was right...

Im not sure why you guys think Hanks cant cut it...

I mean it seems that just mentioning his name creates so much attention for the role, and hes such a good actor, all of you will see it just to see how he or the movie does..

Seems like a good decsion...

Modulator 05-04-2004 01:57 AM

I agree that Hanks could handle the role, but I doubt he will be cast. The script by J. Abrams ... which to the best of my knowledge is the final script for the 2006 Superman Release (which I've read excerpts from) is based on a much younger Superman ... as is the Batman Begins script which Christian Bale is playing the lead. There were talks about Hanks when there were talks about Batman vs. Superman but that project is on hold as of now. Last I heard WB was giving the final say-so to McG who made a couple of statements about wanting Henry Cavill. If you're looking for some decent info check out www.superherohype.com ... they are usually dead-on with any info they release. Personally ... I'm waiting for the next 2 Spidey flix.

I could not agree more! :thumbsup

Firehorse 05-04-2004 02:03 AM

I think he is a great actor and have enjoyed many of his movies. I don't see him as being convincing in this role. I hope I am wrong, Superman has always been enjoyable. :)
