Kill Acacia with this

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4837371/

excellent, excellent prior art repository company profiled in this story, and Acacia is mentioned for patent abuse.

Very interesting article and it clearly shows these companies strategies. Bully with the cost of defending against settling.

The stupid thing is this industry at lots of levels talks to each other. So how come big companies, and small, settled rather than pooling resources and fighting?

We need to single out those who signed and let them know the mistake they made.

The patent business is purely about selling licenses;

Quote:
That's where Nuvocom's work comes in. When facing a patent infringement notice, a Web site can either pay a license fee or challenge the validity of the patent claim. That's what the YouMayBeNext.com group decided to do in the PanIP case. The firms' lawyer hired Nuvocom, which dug up examples of online stores -- including one Canadian service named Viewtron --that accepted credit card payments as far back as the early 1980s. That was apparently enough to convince PanIP to back off the YouMayBeNext.com crowd, but Hangartner said the firm is already sending out a fresh batch of infringement notices to other Web sites. PanIP wouldn't comment.
They aren't even frightened of getting counter sued for harrassment, they just keep sending out letters in the hope a few will sign.

Hope those that signed with Acacia made sure they got a clause to stop paying when the patent is over turned. Because articles like this make Acacias job even harder to convince a judge.

The only defense, he said, is for small firms to get together and share the cost of litigation.

"You need a leader who is willing to organize the group and keep it together," he said. "We need to convince people that there is an alternative to writing this check."

W have a leader, www.impai.net the problem is the big guys who thought it was cheaper to sign up and just give affiliates more drinks in Vegas, those who did not know about the resistance and those who thought they might remove some of the competition.

Look at some of the licensees and work out which reason they signed up?

If everyone had come together we could of used our finacial clout as a battering ram to crush Acacia with costs. The same argument they used for us to sign up, "It's cheaper to settle them fight us"

If a 10 billion dollar industry runs scared when a few lawyers shout BOO, what chances do you think you have against anyone bigger?

Nice find Dig

I've debated with alot of people about ACACIA.
I still say they won't get anywhere however there are many that think they got somthing.
However peice by piece ACACIA will fall wayward.

I rather hope they didn't. Bitches that caved in and signed get what they deserve.

And you are right about there needing to be more sense of solidarity in this industry. The sad fact that is more apparent in light if this Acacia issue is that too many entities, from major programs on down to individual webmasters are here for one thing and one thing only ----- the quick buck. Short-sighted, no sense of doing what's right for the industry, no thinking in the long-term whatsoever.... just "me me me right now."

I can only imagine what Acacia's position would be right now if all those companies who settled had of thrown in with the IMPA or else formed a second united front and FOUGHT. ANd what's wrong with a program asking for donations from all of their affiliates to help fund a defense? Nothing, but it's too much bother for some.

Solidarity in this business is needed.

Seriously the number of people to depend on are getting shorter and shorter.

I don't think you have to imagine very hard.

Acacia would be earning $0000 and spending $100,000 a year, and this is a minimum figure, to argue through court a case that will get thrown out eventually. They would know that we would drag it out and drain them of money.

Now they have all these companies;

smutbucks.com
primecash.com
falcondollars.com
megapornbucks.com
cecash.com
venuscash.com
buttbucks.com
ten.com
trafficcashgold.com
zooted.com
wickedbucks.com
vividcash.com
flyntdigital.com
candidcash.com
platinumbucks.com
sexedcash.com
epiccash.com
adultmegacash.com
jerocash.com
pornkings.com
dormbucks.com
adultpaymaster.com
chichiclicks.com
creamycash.com
gloryholecitycash.com
ddgcash.com

Paying out money to fund them. do you reckon their license money amounts to $100,000 a year?

You ask "What can I do? Well the answer is simple, look at the list and if you see a company there you do business with try changing it to one of those fighting for you;

Video Secrets
Homegrown Video
Lightspeed
ARS
Gamelink
Ademia
AEBN
Audio Communications

Make sure those funding Acacia are not able to feed the beast and those defending us are strong enough to defeat the beast.

I'm giving free content to some of the defendents and if any of the others would like a link on my surfers page they are welcome to it, just contact me.
