I am remodling my patio and landscaping the back yard. Some one at some point in time covered the back yard with plastic and covered the plastic with bark...but over the years did not care for it so weeds and grass (not good grass) have covered the yard. I want to put in grass sod...but it is a major job to try and remove the plastic which is several inches down. My idea is to roto till the bark and plastic up...rake up as much of the plastic as possible...put down a layer of top soil and then put in the grass sod.

Do you have any better solutions to the problem?

Get a scuffle hoe (look it up, also called Dutch hoe) to knock down the weeds. Let them dry in the sun for a day or two, then dump them in compost. They won't grow again because their roots will be dried out.

Shovel the bark out carefully. Unless you want to be picking shreds of plastic out of your yard for years to come, move aside an area of bark, cut out the area of plastic and get it out. Put the bark back. Repeat until you have cleared out the plastic.

Voila! Plant whatever you like, throw in topsoil, whatever. No more plastic
