I've always wondered. What happens with the Polygraph test if..

What happens with the Polygraph test if you shake and respond like a nervous freak at every questions, how are they going to find out if you're lying or not?

Lie detectors can be beat that way. It confuses the test and becomes inconclusive. Another easy trick is to stick a tack in your shoe and step on it when you are telling the truth.

Usually, when you pass a polygraph test, you already are nervous...and you answer like a nervous freak at every question...they can still see if you're lying or not...unless you're pretty good....I don't know anyone who succesfuly passed it..

I always tought a good way to beat a Lie detector test was .. let say you need to answer yes... before answering..you ask yourself if your name is whatever.. and then answer YES!... lol ...

But thats true.. what about those who have not commited a crime but are scared to death that the polygraph will fuck up.. and get real nervous when asked.. "Have you killed whoever? " !?

It's really hard to control..my friend had to pass a polygraph test and when they start, they ask you some general questions (to calibrate the shit you know..) anyway, they were naming several cities, asking my friend if he was living in there...and he had to answer no everytime (even if they named HIS city, which they did).. well as soon as they asked "Do you live in montreal" (he was living in Mtl...) he answered no...no stress at all...they totally knew right there that he was from montreal...those shits are pretty hard to cheat...it measures a lots of things that are pretty hard to control!

The best way to beat a lie detector test is to just play it cool. Get a goodnight sleep, and believe what you say when you're lying.

why? no stress usually equal telling the truth... He probably had no stress also when ask if he lived in other cities...

It depends on who is giving the test. If it's the police, in most cases they ask you a series of questions that they know what are true and what are false. They ask a lot of them.

What makes it difficult is unlike the movies in reality they ask a question, a yes or no question. You have to sit there for about 30 seconds before you answer the question. They do this for the pre-test and the actual test. It is really hard to fool them because 30 seconds is a long ass time when you're sitting there and no matter how much you try to think of something else the machine is taking readings all the time and 9 times out of ten the machine has already shown if you're hiding something before you?ve answered.

Lie detectors aren't really lie detectors. They just show deception. For example, a friend of mine wanted to transfer from Long Beach PD to Rialto PD. He had to take some tests and one of them was the polygraph. He passed everything but during the polygraph they commonly ask off the wall questions for cops. One of them in this case was, "Have you ever had sex with animals." Well this guy was a detective and had been working sex crimes for about 3 years. About 6 months prior to the testing he had a case where some guy had been fucking neighborhood cats. This killed most of the cats or left them pretty torn up. They eventually caught the guy but the case had become a joke and whenever they had an animal call they would say things like, "Looks we got another kitty fucker." Well when asked during the polygraph had he ever had sex with animal, of course he thought of that case. He said no, but the polygraph showed deception on that question.

So even if you were extremely nervous the test takes long enough and they ask enough pre-test questions that they get a feel for the way your body is going to respond. So they will be able to get a feel for how you are acting and how you respond to truthful responses and deceptive responses. But even if you are telling the truth it can come back a false positive if the question reminds you of something else.
