Rich Internet Applications.. Is it the future of the web?

Currently the leading technology for such frontends is Flash. Java was used too, but its not as popular now.

Do you think in the near future the web sites will look more like applications rather than static or partially dynamic pages?

Just wondering if there is anyone intelligent here to contribute to this subject

HTML will always be around. It's an open standard.

I'm sure you love being in the 'Now'...but trust me....HTML will always take center stage.

I think to a degree we are already seeing web sites act more like applications.

Web sites today seem to be as multimedia rich as early CD-rom applications back in the double speed CD ROM days.

After you send me the link to the presentation and demo, I realized the potential behind Flex. Seems to be pretty straight forward and powerful, especially since webpages seem to turn into fully fetched client applications.

But at a current price of $12k for a dual platform, I think it will take some time and more competition for it to become widely used and accepted. Then again it seems like RIAs are already in use.

I dont think this is interesting to the adult market though, rather for online retailers.

pretty soon there will be no distinction between the internet/web and an operating system and PC. the PC will be part of the internet. i do believe that flash can be a very powerful tool to use as an interface to merge the PC and the web.....if you really know how to use flash with databases you can make an awesome interface that doesn't even look like your using a browser.....i think the rumors of google building an OS will hit the bullseye of what i'm imagining......OS/web/computer all meshed together......there is still a long way to go though. whenever i think of this i always picture that one futuristic movie that tom cruise was in...(forget the name)

Open source,Open standard will always prevail.

People laughed at Linux.
Keep laughing.

Give it some time.

I do not foresee HTML being obsolete anytime soon.

Remember ColdFusion?
How about NetObjects?

FAILURES.
