D70 > Digital Rebel (and arguably the 10D as well)

I have a 300D (AKA Rebel), I'm pretty pissed off that a month after I purchased it they come out with a new kit that has an extra lens, battery and CF card for only $AUD200 more (about an extra 10%). Aside from that it's a great camera, although its auto exposure seems to get confused sometimes. I have set it up to show the histogram on the after shot review pic so I can see instantly if the shot has been over or underexposed. An overexposed digital shot has washed out detail that can never be recovered...

for web work both are great cameras.
for just the "look" of the images for web work i would give the edge to the canon. for quality of the camera body i would give the edge to the nikon. it depends also on what existing lenses you have. as your lens inventory grows it is wise to stay in EITHER the nikon camp or the canon camp, because you can use interchangable lenses on mulitiple model camera bodies, and the lenses will ultimately be a bigger investment than camera bodies. put it like this. today's digital camera bodies are like computers---basically they are obsolete quality/features-wise every year or so. but quality lenses are never obsolete. in my view nikon has the best, most complete range of lenses (at this time) so i stick with nikon based bodies. canon has great lenses also, but just not so complete a range. the nikon VR lenses for example are superior technologically to the canon IS lenses. the telephoto primes are probably more advanced from canon. so there's lots of factors. |
