Why don't sponsors have their own merchant accounts? 3rd party companies that process for us obviously do.

Is the risk or cost too high?
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

A lot do. If VISA kills third party processors, no one will have a choice.

                It's mostly a price/volume/security issue.

I think there are a variety of different reasons:

                  1. Can't afford it. Adult merchant accounts cost a few thousand to open. Smaller sites often don't have a few thousand lying around.

                  2. Lack of knowledge. They aren't aware that they can get their own merchant account.

                  3. Too lazy or wary of getting their own merhcant account.
