Awhile back I had a old sponsor link with my affilate ID appear on a high listing under a major search phrase.
I didnt realize it until I got a check. Checked to see where signups where coming from and it was all from Yahoo, Google, and AOL. Made around a exrta $1000 dollars from that link during that month. No idea how or why Google indexed it that way. Its gone now, but it was free money while it lasted
