LA's a great place! everything that you will see in there
is worth the while!:thumbsup |
Another vote for the Venice Beach scene (I used to live on the beach there), and for the Getty Museum. They're both free things to do, so what the hell.
A walk along Abbot Kinney street in Venice Beach is a local's trip back through the 60's (ask for directions; it's not too touristy). Marina Del Rey is just a few miles south, and offers many docks to wander around. To the North is Santa Monica, and although the peir and 3rd St. promenade are touristy, they're safe areas to wander around. Head up Highway 1 to see Malibu and a wonderful twisting ocean-view road. East on Hollywood or Sunset Bl. will take you to the freak show that is Hollywood. Have fun! |
MicroChick & KimmyKim .. thanks guys .. I really want to have a relaxing time out there .. so i'm trying to really narrow down my choices :) Hanging out at the beach, a couple good meals, checking out a tour, a few of the hollywood trademarks, and maybe get some shopping in sounds ideal. Thanks! AlienQ & MicroChick .. seriously, with that stupid movie on today my friends keep teasing me that the big one will hit when I get out there .. hahaha Pornwolf .. I just booked from Hertz today! I didnt even know this thread was bumped .. I'm going to call them up tomorrow and see what I can do. High Quality .. if man ass lovin' means checking out some hottie butts .. then I'll be happy :Graucho Ross .. Scotland is next! I better see you in Miami this summer/fall! Jesus H Christ .. Being that I'm a heterosexual girl, I'm not so interested in finding pussy, but i'm sure there are others on this board that will appreciate it (sorry if that ruined anybody's lesbian fantasy about me) ;) Soooo ... what is the Getty Museum anyways? I also have a day in Long Beach .. anything worth checking out down there?? |

As soon as you hit LA, immediately head south to orange county..
You will be happy you did! |
I like the santa monica area, the walk thing or whatever, the pier etc.. as long as there is no 85 year old men driving their car thru the market and killing people..
Venice is too wierd and hollywood is too bizarre for me. I would suggest the inglewood area if you need some weed or crack..great prices and great quality! |
I don't live there, but my sister does, so I am not certain about where things are exactly. But I enjoyed Venice Beach and the Palasades. And of course Rodeo Drive. If you have kids, you can take them to Knotts Berry Farm or Disneyland. And there was this great restaurant called the Cheesecake Factory. Yummy

Just thought of another possibility. I have a friend who loves to fly. He has a small plane and loves to fly to Catalina for lunch. I have seen many of his business friends arrive at his office ready for the flight. They wore suits and pictured themselves flying in a Donald Trump private plane. They left all nice and crisp, and came back all rumpled and sweaty since the plane is a 4-seater and not air-conditioned.
When you land at the Catalina airport, you are on top of a large hill. You must go down the hill by taxi to see Catalina. There is a small snack building at the airport where you can buy Buffalo Burgers, Hotdogs, etc. Even if you don't go down the hill, you get a fantastic flight and you see the Coast. I'm sure you can check with the small airports like Torrance and Hawthorne to find a private pilot who will fly you to Catalina. In fact, I will check with a pilot friend to see how much it would cost and whom you should call. The same pilot friend can take you up for a glider ride. |
Since I know you are a female, if you are interested in shopping, you should check out Main Street in Ocean Park/Venice. It is close to the Venice Boardwalk. You will find some very unique shops, but high prices. Same goes for Montana Avenue in Santa Monica. Nice shops, but pricey. Then you have Hollywood Boulevard and Melrose Avenue where you can find some good buys. Rodeo Drive is a must because it is eye candy. Beautiful clothes and beautiful people!
The Graveline Tour takes you to places on the West Side of LA where famous celebrities died. Basically it is the Hollywood Tour with a few extras thrown in. They use large hearses to drive you around. The good thing about a tour is that you can ask questions. You can discover places where you want to go once the tour ends. Whenever I visit a new place, if I am not met by a friend who can guide me, then I make sure to arrange for a tour. I have been very happy with the results 95% of the time. |

This is probably the best deal on this list for nightclub things and you are sure to see a star or two (Britney, Justin, ....):thumbsup SkyBar is also great. SaddleRanch is pretty interesting, I know the owners there, so I could hook you up with that. If you get a chance, go up to Point Dume. The turn is just before Zima Beach off PCH on the left and you will go through a very exclusive neighborhood. Other than my favorite surfing spot, many movies have been filmed there and often it host celebrities that layout hidden behind rocks and such. Wear hiking boots though, you must descend down a tall ladder to access it. |
never been in LA, but nice house in Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Universal Studio etc
