Getting the day off to a good start:

Rick, I tried to download several of the hi-bandwidth movies, and they failed for me. I wanted to make some higher quality screencaps.

Thanks,
blueboy

If any other designers are having a bitch of a time with the PLUMBINGS logo...

http://www.esbee.net/cjbanner/pshow.jpg

I recreated it pretty damn close. Not spot-on perfect, but at least it's on a transparent background. Layers are intact so PS users can fine-tune to make it even closer.

Also saved a PSP version, though had to flatten to transparent background so not so easy to fine-tune.

Pick them up here. Hope it helps :)

a little tip, work with paths to extract the logo.... it looks very smooth after a few modifications...

i'll post my entry soon.

Nick, you are certainly getting better. I like the fact that you picked an odd size banner yet a standard tower. It's good to mix it up. Here are a couple of tips for you:

1. Use the full URL somewhere in the banner as type-in traffic is very valuable. Find a way to always actually put http://www.plumbings.com or at least www.plumbings.com. At the minimm you should have plumbings.com in there because othewise plumbings is just a word and meaningless in the banner.

2. The handjob image does nothing to promote an anal site.

My favorite part was the chicks nail next to the anus. It's a nice advertisement.

Had to comment on #1 rick.

I have worked as an affiliate marketing manager for years...as well as running my own sites....I have to say, if a banner has a full url, as an affiliate, I won't use it.

Type in traffic is certainly valuable, however, if my surfer types in the url instead of clicking I don't get credit for the sale.

As a site owner, your point makes sense, but as an affiliate, it costs me money. ;)

I'd have a nice mix of banners with and without urls so your affiliates can choose for themselves. ;)

[added]
I usually use mouseovers with the url to the site....so you can always suggest to your affiliates to use those instead if they don't want to use the url banners
[/added]

gigi 04-28-2004 08:23 AM

BTW, I'm waiting for a usr/pass to the sites so I can join in the fun!

NickPapageorgio 04-28-2004 08:28 AM

I appreciate the feedback. It is definitely useful to me as I am new to all this and don't really know what sells best sometimes. What sells for a car dealer or realtor has no bearing on this lmao. I will take all the tips you guys and gals have and I honestly appreciate every one of them. Thank you.

JamesK 04-28-2004 08:29 AM

Damn there are a lot of horrible designers on GFY. Anyway, good work zvik and congrats.

Nick...your add is probably the most effective, no doubt, but how PRACTICAL is a 200 K HPA? How many affiliates will actually use it? Most HPA's are in the 50-70K range.

NickPapageorgio 04-28-2004 10:07 AM

He didn't indicate file sizes he desired. I can make 1k if needed. I was just going for flashy. Tip well taken though. I am still learning.

you can also crop the image (read cut in pices) a bit, the right side (movie frames) aren't animated so cut that off and animate the left part for instance.

Will save a lot of Kb's

gigi 04-28-2004 10:24 AM

This is so kewl! For a GFY thread, and a contest thread to boot people are actually being helpful and sharing tips! woohoo! haha

NickPapageorgio 04-28-2004 10:24 AM

Does it help to slice it all up and put it in a table?? Or do advertisers not want a table but a solid image?

gigi 04-28-2004 10:35 AM

a table is better....imageready will create the table and input the slices for you at the click of a button ;)
