Is it better to be FEARED than to be LOVED?

Machiavelli says yes.

What do you say?

Morons and sheep think that.

Even the most treasured "defenders of freedom" like Jefferson et al employed FEAR (maybe not of death) to get where they needed to go.

Morons can't see nuance

Sheep follow their inner weakness for external validation.

Seems like you're guilty of being both.

It is better to be feared than loved because you have no control over the people who love you, they have control over you. They can always take away their love and then you are left with nothing. Fear, however, always remains.

Stalin is a bad example of this because he didn't use fear appropriately. You should not be feared so much that you are despised, because in this case, given the opportunity, your people will overthrow you.

This lesson was given pro bono.

Manga,

Awesome analysis.

Stalin was a bad example indeed because he used a ham-handed way of employing FEAR. He wiped out whole villages through forced famines, etc.

The best form of FEAR is the one that is mistaken for DUTY/NECESSITY.

This is the fear that drives millions of Americans daily to drive (sheeplike) to their jobs daily, produce for their masters, and then troop home like cattle.

Stalin is a fine example. just a different one. if you want to look at the US, look no further than COINTELPRO from the 50's to the end of the Vietnam war. used by several president's, all with the guidance of Hoover.
